BIBLICAL NUMBERS ARE IMPORTANT
"Numbers are used in Scripture, not merely as in nature, with supernatural design, but with spiritual significance" (Companion Bible).
The good LORD speaks to mankind in various ways. After using the original languages of Hebrew and Greek, He places many types and shadows to get His message over to us. And, His Numbers are an enhancement to His word, opening up many truths to every Bible student.
My computer crashed (sort of) and I lost many of the earlier saved-GNLetters; but, the subject on numbers has been used recently. 'Years Equaling Days' was our last letter; while, No. 464 dealt with the number 7.
Quickly, Number 1 stands for unity, showing how the LORD, Himself is One. Numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (also study numbers 12 and 40) carry the meanings of: Number 2 = Division and enmity, in particular man and God; Number 3 = The Trinity and Divine Perfection; Number 4 = Creation (earth, etc.); Number 5 = God's grace; number 6 = man's number. He was created on the 6th day; number 7 = perfection; and, number 8 = the resurrection, new life and the New Creation.
Numbers are to be understood to carry SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE. Often we need to add them together; such as, 4 & 1 – the earth and God. We then see God blessing His work of creation. Of course, God has more numbers, too. The number 12 deals with His governmental perfection; as in the nation of Israel. The number 40 is about probation. We see the wilderness walk of man in Israel's journey; and, the flood on earth for 40 days and nights.
In closing, I'd like to use the Companion Bible in this Newsletter. It says, "THE FOUR PERFECT NUMBERS, 3, 7, 10, and 12 have for their product the remarkable number 2,520. It is the Least Common Multiple of ten digits, without a remainder. It is the number of chronological perfection (7 x 360)."
