Looking Ahead
"The LORD knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep
the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment," 2 Peter 2:9 (NASB).
It's our thinking that the end is near. I've always thought that. My eyes have been fixed on the future. And, don't' we have short lives, anyway. We need to always see the coming of Jesus. In fact, the motif of the Bible is for us to always be ready, no matter what. But, when we mention the thought of that day, people say, 'Yeah, but no one knows the day nor the hour.' To me, it seems an excuse for staying non-active in His service. However, we can know about the week of Jesus' coming, can't we?
Prophecy tells us about the week – Daniel's 70th week, that is. When Daniel asked about the coming end, he was told: "...that it would be for a time, times and half a time" (Dan. 12:7). So, what does this mean? Going to Daniel 8:19, we read that Gabriel was instructed to tell Daniel all the points of the vision that was just presented. "Behold, I am going to let you know what will occur in the final indignation, as it pertains to the appointed time of the end" (Dan. 8:19). WOW !!! THAT'S EXCITING STUFF, FRIENDS.
We have to learn about weeks, here - 70 of them. Daniel 8 tells of "appointed time to the end" (verse 19). Daniel is told by Gabriel about animals that represent nations. The ram is Media and Persia (v 20). The goat stands for Greece (v 21). The horn is broken into four. Then, Daniel is told about the 70 weeks, in chapter 9.
Imagine a clock with it's hands sweeping away over time. Got it? Good! That's the manner God has chosen to deal with Israel. In Daniel 9, the clock was going for 69 weeks. Then, it stopped. When it begins again, Israel will be recognized by all the world. Even, a peace treaty will be signed between the Antichrist and others; including Israel. That begins the 70th week of Daniel 9:27. "And he (The Antichrist) will make a covenant with the many for one week" (Dan. 9:27). The 70th week does begin but, it is cut short; In the middle. "But in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering;" (Dan. 9:27).
I certainly believe that you can read Daniel and get the information. But, read it with an open heart; for, It is an amazing truth that most fail to see. But, nevertheless, read it and memorize Daniel 9:27. If you do have any questions, please write me and I'll answer you. That's a promise.
