THE KINGDOM PRAYER BY JESUS
“In this manner, therefore pray:
‘Our Father in heaven, Hallowed by Your name. Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’ ” Matt. 6:10 - NKJV.
Listening to Jesus is, of course, eternally important. Remember the words His Father said about His Son? “This is my Son, Hear ye Him,” Matt. 17:5. Yes! It is very important.
We must notice what the mission of Jesus was from the beginning. Before He died for our sins, Jesus was to teach. And, we are to listen. In our Bibles, we learn to turn to each passage and study it out for ourselves. We must learn what Jesus taught; and He was ever teaching His disciples.
On the mount of transfiguration, Jesus took only three of His disciples. Peter, James and John went with Jesus ‘by themselves’ (Mt. 17:1). At this famous Christian site, He taught them about the coming kingdom. Even today, we have to learn more of the coming kingdom. The kingdom is the message that keeps us on the narrow road, Friend. Just look at Matthew 5, where we find the LORD’S PRAYER. Here, Jesus warned about using repetitions; as well as praying to be heard.
The Father knows we need this or that. So, Jesus taught about needs and about forgiveness. Before our LORD explains more on the prayer, He tells us a little more about His Father’s glory. “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. AMEN !!! (Mt. 6:13)
When we study the KINGDOM, we shall quickly learn how important it is, IN SCRIPTURE. Some won’t inherit the KINGDOM (Mt 7:21). In fact, verse 26 makes it very clear: “NOW EVERYONE WHO HEARS THESE SAYINGS OF MINE AND DOES NOT DO THEM, WILL BE LIKE A FOOLISH MAN WHO BUILT HIS HOUSE ON THE SAND.” (Mt 7:26) But, we read of those who do shall reign on this earth at the return of Jesus. That’s the prayer’s end: “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” (Matt. 6:10).
We must have the foundation of Christ. We, as well, must follow His teaching, in order to be a pleasing disciple. Are you save in His blood? Are you serving in His church. Remember, the KEYS OF HEAVEN were given to His Church. Turn your Bible to Matthew 16:19 and look it up.
