GOD WATCHES OVER HIS PEOPLE
"When I remember Thee upon my bed, I meditate on Thee in the night watches.
For Thou hast been my help, And in the shadow of Thy wings I sing for joy.
My soul clings to Thee; Thy right hand upholds me," Psalms 63:6-8 (All verses from N A S B

The Psalms are wonderful thoughts about God's protection over His people. Each Psalm tells of God's continual care. Yes! The LORD watches over us, all the time. Further, David writes where the Lord is when He cares about us and watches over our lives. "The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD'S throne in heaven; His eyes behold. His eyelids test the sons of me," Psalms 11: 4.

We learn about God's eternity in the Psalms. David writes, "For a thousand years in Thy sight are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night," Psalms 90:4. With such knowledge about the LORD, the Psalmist is totally aware of his duty. "My life is continually in my hand, Yet I do not forget Thy law," David wrote in Psalms 119:109. Then, with his attitude of trust and humbleness, David writes determinedly, "I have inclined my heart to perform Thy statutes Forever, even to the end," Psalms 119:112.
David was a man after God's own heart (Acts 13:22; Ps. 89:20; I Sam. 13:14) Therefore, David knew it was God's grace that allowed him to serve. It was all by God's goodness. David knew this, clearly. "Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips. Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice the deeds of wickedness with men who do iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies," Psalms 141:3-4.

The truth of God's care continues in the New Testament; as well, of course. With God's blessing, comes responsibility; just like the life of David. The LORD expects the disciples of His Son to watch; just like David did. But, we have to notice that most of our watching is to be upward, looking for the Second Coming of Christ and be ready for that day; just as Jesus stated. "Therefore, be on the alert, for you do not know which day your LORD is coming," Matthew 24:42.
Since, we understand that the Bible was written to churches or members of churches, we know that those who are called to WATCH must follow the word. Thus, Paul wrote, "Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, ACT LIKE MEN, be strong," 1st Cor. 16:13). Further, since the Holy Spirit indwelt the church on the day of Pentecost, the LORD'S people have had Spiritual help; that's the only way we can dig in and serve, faithfully. In fact, the Hebrew Letter tells us about service, emphatically. "Obey your leaders (Pastors), and submit to them; for they keep WATCH over your souls" (He. 13;17). So, we thank you God for caring about mankind; even, in a fallen state of sin.
