Study To Show Thyself Approved
"The heart of the righteousness ponders how to answer...He whose ear listens
to the life giving reproof will dwell among the wise," Proverbs 15:28, 32 N A S V.
I never enjoy study time; even though, I loved to know everything that was going on around me. With average intelligence, my approach was to CRAM the day before test time. I did okay, but I should have spent more time in the books. But, it's like Ecclesiastes 12:12 says, "...and much study is a weariness of the flesh" (KING JAMES VERSION).After serving 3 years in the Army, I learned that the government would pay me to go to school. How great was that? So, I got an AA Degree and, along with it, a lot of monthly money. Well, at the time it was a lot. Then, I learned that the real purpose of life is to serve God. Just like Scripture says, "All things worked together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to HIS PURPOSE," Romans 8:28.Once I learned that God had all that life is about, things have been wonderful. Married 50 years to Lavon from Pueblo, Colorado, I've had great jobs working in the grocery business at Safeway. And, for over 5 years, I was in broadcasting for KSBW-TV; as well as a disc jockey (KDON, Salinas, Ca. and, KTUX, in Pueblo). At KTUX, I worked with Don Pietro, who took the name, Johnny Rabbitt and was a big hit in St. Louis, Mo.; later, in Los Angeles. Don has since passed. Then, God saw in me a need to preach; so, He called me to proclaim His word in 1968. Since, being save (gloriously) in 1959, I have only wanted what God had for me. With many helpers, I organized 2 missions; which, became churches that I turned over to other brethren. At the last place, Grand Junction, Colo., I thought God wanted me to move to South America for a mission endeavor there. But, God knows my heart better than I know I do; so, He allowed me to be called to pastor a church that was in Orangevale, California. I accepted the call, thinking that the LORD wanted me to serve in an established church; rather than beginning another one.Although, it did not work out, some of the members wanted to stay with me and I felt obligated to take care of them, Spiritually. We organized Trinity MBC and I have been here since 1980. We paid off the building over 20 years ago. And, Dear Friend, this coming February, we will celebrate freeness of SALVATION and the building our annual meeting. This year we are pleased to have Brother Carter from the Sacramento area preach the services. That's February 1st, 2nd and, of course on Sunday. However, don't forget that dinner follows after the morning service on February 3rd. So, Ya'all come, ya hear?
