There is no question that people are always trying to trap or ensnare others. Moses, Isaiah, David and even Jesus knew this and they tried to warn us. But, we usually miss what's going on at the time. It's not until later that we become aware of being taken in and used.
Besides the world, there's the devil. Like David, we must go to God to right the wrong. In David's songs, we hear of his need against all the enemies out there; especially the chief one, Satan. "The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;" (Ps. 22:6).
David knew that it's a spiritual battle; that his help will come only from the LORD is these situations. Therefore, if we are to be saved out of the snare or trap or gin, God has to work on our behalf; just as in David's case, "Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because He was wroth (Ps. 22:8).
In any Spiritual battle, God cares and we need to know that His way is the right way. If we know what entails in the battle, we are allowed to go to the LORD, accepting His care. And here, we need to go to the LORD, daily and ask for His guidance to even, keep us free from the snares.
This was the problem that Israel failed to do; which, seems all the way through their history. Certainly, they missed Jesus. That's why Israel is in such turmoil, today. However, Paul explains what is going on with God's chosen nation; saying that God has not cast away His people for Paul was serving God and, he did so through Jesus. And, Paul was of Israel. He was a Jew, a Benjamite (Rom.11:1).
But, Israel the nation has been in rough shape since their denial of their Savior, Jesus. Paul explains what happened in Romans 11:1-10. While the nation continues even today, She is blinded to the snare and gin She now is controlled by. Currently in "the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear" (see Isaiah 29:10). Israel's current life is laid out for us in Romans 11:11. She is blinded for only awhile; until all the Gentiles come into the foal of God.
I don't know how many still look at the nation as being saved in the end, but I sure think that's the case. Jesus spoke about this in Matthew 23:39 that Israel "... shall not see me henceforth till ye shall say, 'Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the LORD.'" Until then, Israel remains blinded, unable to know what's going on. The nation still thinks that She is in control.
God is always working among His people, however. While, we think Israel should be aware of what's going on with them, we also know that God is in charge. Therefore, a "...spirit of slumber" controls Israel. She is in a snare; trapped until the nation cries out for Jesus in the very last days. Our prayers are for Israel; for there are God's chosen people.
We can't help but wonder why She failed to see the coming state; for so much is said about them in the Psalms and other books of God's word. All the warnings are right here in the 11th Chapter of Romans; but, how many Gentiles know God and serve Him? The snare is pervasive, entrapping the world, totally. While, we know that most people have a sense of serving Jesus; yet, will He find faith at His coming?
In the Kingdom Parables, Jesus gave much warning about service. And, in His great commission, He told His church to, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," Matthew 28:20. With this instruction, Jesus also promised, "I am with you always, even to the end of the world" (Mt. 28:20 b). It sure seems to me that, if Jesus is with His church, then we have to get where He is.
