THE REIGN OF THE LORD

"And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end," Luke 1:33.

        In the Old Testament, Israel followed their King. We see that God blessed the nation through the royalty that He set up; which began with David. But, I have to chuckle at man's short

and narrow view about what God does. God is so gracious to us, having always much more in mind for all His people than they can think. What Israel was asking – more like demanding

– was a change to be made in the plan of God. They wanted to be like the other nations that had a king. Israel was thinking fleshly, just like the majority of believers believe today.

Because we have the entire Word of God, we can see the blessing that the LORD gave to the nation of Israel; even though they didn't not know it, at the time. God knows about all men,

birth to the grave. He knows what all men need. Thus, when Israel stated to Samuel, " ... Behold, thou are old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations"

(1st Sam. 8:5), God had the answer from His plan. Samuel isn't pleased with Israel's words, but God tells him to "Harken unto the voice of the people ... for they have not rejected thee, but they

have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them" (V 7).

        God looks beyond man's thoughts. His eternal intentions, from beginning to end, will not be altered. The LORD knows that a king is what all men need, but man is man and man always fail.

All along, a king was in the intentions of the LORD. It was not a new thing with the LORD. But, it will be Jesus, the King; not only for Israel but, for all of mankind. As God works through Israel, He

sets up a kingship from which His Son would come. A king is what all men need. Not a man but, the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

As we learn, it was though kings that God worked out His plan when Israel enter the Promised Land. David, along with the rest of royalty, brought Israel to be head over the other nations.

        Ultimately, the true king would enter the world and become Savior for Israel and all mankind. Born in Bethlehem, within the nation of Israel, we see that it was the LORD'S plan, all along. Jesus Christ provided salvation for Israel and, for all men, Jews and the Gentiles, alike. And further, His PLAN was, and is, right on time.

        Again, I chuckle (more holier this time) when I see what God is doing for the nation of Israel, today. They don't know what is going on, at all. Israel and the world doesn't get it ! So, I chuckle

as I watch newscasts that involve Israel. The world, newscasters and the nation of Israel, fail to see that God will redeem Israel through a king, Jesus Christ. Isn't the LORD so gracious? Even though

Israel refused Jesus as their Messiah, God works in all of man's life though His Son. The plan that began in eternity will be done on earth, in the end of time.

        So, the Bible says that Israel will be saved at the end of the six thousand years of time. Until then, their house is left unto them desolate. The nation will not have their king and the Kingly

blessings, until they say, "Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord," Matthew 23:39.

        Since Jesus walked on the earth, doing all the miracles and establishing His church body, Israel has been forgotten by God. But, the WORD tells us that it is only for a time. Since the nation

rejected God's king, they have been scattered throughout the world. But, God began to bring them back into their land in 1948. Israel was recognized as a nation by the United Nations at that time

and, She has been in the news as the Headliner from Adolph Hitler, until now especially, today. Want to know where we are in time? Study the nation of Israel, my friend.

        But, what Israel failed to see in their day, is open to men of faith today. First, we all know that we have sinned and come short of God's glory (Romans 3:10, 23). We need a king to follow. By

faith we look to Jesus and trust Him by serving in His body the church, just as He taught (Mat. 28:19-20; Eph. 1:22; 3:10, 21, 23 & 5:25). Understanding the church is such a wonderful truth! We have

so much more that the nation of Israel ever had, of course. We have a new life in Christ by what He did and what is written in the New Testament. We can rule today, through Jesus and, we should.



        Of course, our living now doesn't compare to the reign during the Millennium Age. But, at that time, our bodies will be gone. We will be glorified. Then, we'll see Jesus face to face. Israel, in

that day will have their king, as well. Even though they rejected Jesus 2000 years ago, the nation will, and from their heart, accept God's provision for them, at this time. During the millennium, Israel

will be the HEAD nation. The Bible tells us that His Bride (the faithful of both Covenants), will reign on earth at that time.

        When Jesus reigns on earth with His Bride it will be just as Israel did in the Old times and under David, the king. The salvation message tells us that natural man is rejected by God; but, goes

further to say that man is rejected. Man may be saved but, if he doesn't submit to God's calling, he is rejected to serve. It's the same as the biblical type shows. Read the account of Saul and David

to prove that point. "But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought a man after His own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over His people..." (1st Sam. 13:14).

David replaced Saul. Today, by faith, the spirit replaces the flesh when we reign with Jesus. Certainly, it is how God's plan unfolds throughout the Bible and, clearly, throughout time.

LEAP YEAR

"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord

as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day," 2 Peter 3:8.

God has a time period in His 7000 year plan; which, in seen in the week that Peter refers to above. Six days have almost closed and, when the Seventh day of God's

plan starts, we will begin when the millennium kingdom, the 1000 years that JESUS REIGNS ON EARTH. So, there's not much time before Jesus returns. Amen? Amen!

When we view the calendar that men have created, an extra day had to be inserted that comes every four years. It's today and it's called LEAP YEAR. Wikipedia.com says:

"Although most years of the modern calendar have 365 days, a complete revolution around the sun takes approximately 365 days and 6 hours. Every four years, during which an extra 24 hours have

accumulated, one extra day is added to keep the count coordinated with the sun's apparent position."

Now, I recognize that most of us are too critical but, it seems to me that most people think of the LORD about every four years; just like LEAP YEAR. They, sort of, think in terms of making us lost time

some day; even when Jesus comes, they think. Yet, I still invite people to study and think about eternity. I give them cards and shake their hands, daily. While, they are always friendly, I never see themin church.

Some respond with a smile, but seem to always have a "scheme" or, try to sell me something. Either that, or they attempt to enlist me in what they are doing. However, most, are just too busy doing their own thing,

engrossed with their ideas of life. They don't have time. So, off they go, leaping into what is in their life, giving little thought about eternity.

A reply that I often hear is, 'I go to church; at least twice a year. You know, Easter and Christmas'?' I hear about the good things they say they feel on those TWO days of the year. But, if two times a year makes them

feel good, what would they feel like going 52 times a year? It would be Great, right? RIGHT !

If LEAP YEAR makes up the lapse of time - that 6 hours, and adds another day every four years then, let's see how that works within the creation of man in a year's time. If a person goes to church 2 times a year; that

means 50 Sundays remain each year. In order to make up the time missed, let's multiply it out, using the same formula as is used to determine LEAP YEAR.

So, a person lives within the span that God gives him in Psalms 90:10 (70 to 80 years of life). He's about 73 years old. But, he goes to church only twice a year. That means that 50 weeks are missed. Thus. if we multiply

73 by the 50 times he doesn't go, we see that 73 X's 50, equals 365 days. The math works out perfectly.

We have to drop the zero at the end of our multiplying; but, we are working out a spiritual LEAP YEAR, remember. And, consequentially, when one misses 50 Sundays a year, he is leaping into some real eternal difficulty.

The TIME WILL BE MADE UP – it has to be made up, according to Scripture. "Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together" (He 10:25).

And, when a person puts God on the back burner, he will spend time making up what he refused to do when he lived freely on earth. After Jesus returns, we don't see a A PRETTY PICTURE for such people in Scripture.

"In hell, he lifted up his eyes...," Luke 16:23; or, we read: "Cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness..." (Matt. 25:30). And, even members of churches who fail to redeem their time and forget their purpose of

attending church will be lacking on that day. They attend, perhaps. But Jesus said, "Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love" (Rev 3:4). Yes! These are church members in the book

of Revelation.

What makes us LEAP or JUMP FOR JOY, today? Is it that God's plan is almost coming to earth with a KING to rule? Are you so excited that you can't wait? I hope so! It is unfortunate when we present God's love to people

and get the response we find in the book of Acts when Paul reasoned about righteousness ... and judgment to come with Felix, a Roman procurator (A.d. '51-58). Felix answered like he lived today. "...go thy way for now;

when I have a more convenient time I will call for you," Acts 24:25. Felix "... hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him" (24:26). Festus succeeded Felix and, we have no writings about Felix

serving Jesus or trusting in His salvation. How sad!

GOD'S PROMISES

"Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah, for the sake of His servant David,

as He promised him to give a lamp to him and his sons forever," 2 Kings 8:19.

     As we all know when studying the Bible, the Old Testament must be understood by the New Testament. We learn the meaning of the New Testament by knowing the Old. Such is the

case with God's promises; for, it a ONE PLAN THAT BEGAN BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD AND THEN, REVEALED TO MANKIND.

    Therefore, in David, we see how God kept Israel ongoing within the promises because of His word He gave to David. We read of many times that the Almighty was ready to destroy

Israel off the map. But, The Lord gave His word - His promise - to David. The WORD OF THE LORD kept the nation alive and within God's grace. It's the same thing today.

           "Heaven and earth shall pass away but My word shall never pass away," Matthew 24:36. Man! The words of Jesus are huge; even difficult to grasp. That's exactly what is going to take

       place, however. That's what it says and it will be so. When we know God's power – even a little amount, we are brought right before the LORD and His word. The world grows dim; while, the

       plan of God thrills our hearts. By faith, we know that the future is assured and joy floods the soul. Do you see yourself within the plan that the Father has – just for you, in Christ?

            Further, Jesus shows what is ahead for us; that is, servants of God. We know that He is and that He "...rewards those who diligently seek Him," Heb. 11:6 b. The Bible is where we see

the plan of God; for it is His promised WORD. As the plan unfolds within the Word, we see that the promises made to Abraham continues until the life of Jesus, the Christ (anointed). We see

this truth of continuation when we read Paul, in Galatians 3;8. He says the covenant is secure; even, a deal between two men. "... Though it is only a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed,

no man annuls, or adds to it."

          Then, concerning God's Eternal Covenant, Paul explains it as beginning with Abraham. "Now to Abraham and His Seed were the promises made. He does not say, 'And to seeds,' as of

many, but as of one, 'And to your Seed,' who is Christ." Galatians 3:16. Very clear, here. Learn as much as you can about the Covenant and you'll see Abraham and Jesus; that is, man and God

at the start and, at the end.

          Again, the plan began with Abraham and continued until Jesus. As it unfolded to men, God chose Israel to carry the truth to the world. But, before Israel, we have to go back to Abraham

to see it's beginning; that is, when God begin to deal with men since the Fall of Adam. Through Abraham, we see that God would justify all nations by the gospel - in the same manner as was

told to faithful Abraham. "In you all the nations shall be blessed" (Gal. 3:8.) It's by faith (before circumcision and therefore, before baptism).

         But then, as New Covenant believers, we never want to think in the terms that Israel used. Sure, Abraham was their father. But, as Jesus taught, "...God is able raise up children to

Abraham from these stones," Matthew 3:9. Sure, David was the King that Israel loved but, David's Seed, Jesus, was not received by the majority. In God's beginning New Testament letter,

we read "The book of genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham;" Matthew 1:1. However, many within Israel did believe in Jesus saying, "Have mercy on me, o Lord,

thou son of David," Matthew. 15:22.

         For many of the Jews, Jesus had to use strong words; words that we must heed today. "Many will come east and west, and sit down with Abraham ... in the kingdom of heaven,"

Matthew 8:11. Then, Jesus said, "But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness..." (V 12). A sad day for the Jewish people, for sure. But, it's a day that all of us must look

toward. It is coming. His kingdom is coming to earth; just as the Disciples prayer states: "on earth, as it is in heaven," Matthew 6:10. Look up and see th

SALVATION EXPLAINED IN ROMANS 5

(DO WE KNOW THE ROMAN ROAD BY HEART?)

"For if when we were enemies were reconciled to God through the death of His Son,

much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life, Romans 5:10.

Man's salvation is centered in the fact that Jesus had to die. There was no hope unless payment was made for sin. Jesus did die for our sins, giving life to anyone who trusts in His finished work; that is, in

Him alone. Sure, we fear what is ahead – what the future holds – but, when peace enters the heart once God has forgiven us of our sin, we are flooded with His life.We rejoice!

It was 1959 when I believe in the Lord and He saved me. I was young and stupid but, I did not want to go to Hell. As Brother Ted Cooper preached, I heard how to avoid the place of eternal destruction. All I needed to do was trust Jesus

as my Savior, he said. I did and, I have never have regretted it! Amen!

Paul's instruction in Romans provides a clear picture of God's plan when it comes to the righteousness required. We see what it means. Like Abraham, we have the promise that God told to him. Abraham "would be the heir of the world" (Rom. 4:13), Paul teaches. Then, perhaps the most precious verses in the Bible, concerning God's love in action, is given Romans, chapter 5.

Paul begins by stating that we were justified by faith in Jesus. Next, peace came to our hearts (V 1). Verse 2 explains that peace comes by grace; even to the point that tribulation has little effect upon the heart. Faith keep tribulation

away and gives us character to continue on in hope, verse 3-4. Then, the next verse of Romans 5 teaches us that hope doesn't disappoint. God's love fills the heart, resulting peace because "...the love of God has been poured out

in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us," verse 5

Romans 5 is such a powerful passage explaining sin and salvation. Of course, the Book of Romans is where the Roman Road is mapped out for us. The Road of Romans 3:10; 3:23; 5:8-10; 6:23 and 10:9-10 teaches us the way to

learn how to walk toward God. If you don't know these verses by heart, shame on you. Back in the sixties, Alisal Baptist Church taught us to memorize the Roman Road. I have never forgotten the road. But, when you walk on a road

long enough, it becomes very familiar. You feel safe.

Paul explains that the promise of salvation does not come through keeping the Law that was given to Moses at Mt. Sinai. Neither, doing good or anything else will give us the promise. While, the promise began with Abraham and his

lineage, the Jews had claim above the Gentiles. However, salvation and the promise given to Abraham has always been by trusting in what God said. Faith is the only means.

We see then, as it is written, "Because the Law brings about wrath; for where there is no law, there is no transgression" (Rom. 4:15). The demands of the Law clearly informs us of the impossibility of doing or keeping its demands. The Roman instruction shows us that "...God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (5:8).

To me, Romans 5:9 informs my heart how that I was saved and, thereby justified; as well as, how I was saved from His wrath to come. "Much more then,,having now been justified by His BLOOD, we shall be saved from wrath through

Him." Like the Old Testament Tabernacle, the blood that was shed on the Altar to forgive sin, was the same blood that was carried to the Holy of Holies and sprinkled on the Mercy Seat of God. THE VERY SAME BLOOD.

In the act of completion, Jesus announced, "It is finished." To be saved, we must trust in the blood of Calvary. And, like the blood of the Tabernacle that went from Altar to Mercy Seat, we know that His one act was all that needed for us

to remain saved. Trust continues, of course. We must trust in the Blood to inherit with Abraham. The Bible teaches that every person needs to be born again.Salvation is also taught that we are to walk the narrow road if we shall inherit

the Kingdom (Matthew 7:21 &22).

Salvation's deal is done. Never, can one lose his salvation. He is safe from hell. And, never can one lose the inheritance of Abraham's promise; as long as faith is in the heart and action produces fruit, doing His will; building on the Rock.

WORSHIP REGULATIONS

"Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?

For we saw His star in the east, and we have come to worship Him," Matthew 22

To better understand what it means to worship, let's look at the Greek word PROSKUNEO. And, if we break the word up, we see that PROS means towards; while KUNEO means to

kiss. This is the word that is used most in the New Testament. It means an act of reverence and homage to the Creator.

In our just – finished - "Paid off the building" celebration, Brother Steve Waters did an outstanding job presenting the subject and meaning of worship. Although, it was written on just two

weeks ago (No. 405, Jan. 25), we are moved to look at this all important Biblical doctrine, once again. Thank you, Brother Waters, Sister Susan and Easton, their son who traveled with them.

Brother Waters reminded us that WORSHIP is liken to a dog that licks the hand of the master. WORSHIP has the idea of the worshipper prostrating himself. Brother Waters preached on the

importance of worship, clearly showing that worship has to offered in a correct manner. Certainly, we just don't stay at home and say that God knows our hearts. We go to church and praise the

Lord, Steve boldly declared. He is right, of course.

There are restrictions and regulations placed on worship service that the Bible clearly teaches. To be in line with the Bible, we have to stick with Scripture. We have to ask, 'WHO DO WE WORSHIP?'

And, 'WHERE DO WE WORSHIP?' Both answers show that we worship God, alone; not angels, and certainly not any idolatry items.

As to where we are to worship, our Lord shows that worship is no longer restricted to buildings or, any special areas; such as, the Temple, Jerusalem or, in the mountain. There is no place, no city or

anywhere else for man to worship correctly and spiritually within New Testament. And, man has to worship by going to the Father through the Son, Jesus. That's because Jesus fulfilled the Law by living

it out, perfectly. He also paid the penalty of the Law by dying in our place on Calvary. Since Calvary, the Law is removed and faith, alone has entered for man. See Ephesians 2:8-9.

Today, therefore and in the New Testament, we are blessed to worship God in spirit; that is, our individual spirits. Further, we never can forget that truth is absolutely necessary in our worship. If we

worship God correctly, we must follow New Testament teachings; for, "All Scriptures are given by inspiration of God..." 2 Timothy 3:16. God expects man to read and apply what He has said and written.

We understand then, that true WORSHIP is only offered to GOD. There is no better example of this than when Satan wanted Jesus to fall down and worship him. Jesus said, "...You shall worship the

Lord your God and worship Him only" Matt. 4:10. Notice, Jesus followed only what was written. Surely, we can do nothing but the same. We have to follow Scripture if our worship is received by the Lord.

And, thank the LORD, WORSHIP NO LONGER IS RESTRICTED TO ONE PLACE. In fact, worship is anywhere; at home or in a building. Worship that is offered from the heart and is in the TRUTH is what

is written. Worship is just as Jesus instructed the Samarian women, "The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth," John 4:24. Our Lord explained that God seeks such kind of worship because God, Himself "... is spirit ...," John 4:25. God bless!

RAISED UP IN JESUS

"If Christ be not raised your faith is vain," 1st Corinthians 15:17 NKJV.

     Vain or, empty faith, cannot be considered in Christian's minds; or, better, in their hearts. Jesus rose and we are looking upward for His return. There are many proofs presented to us. One is John, the Baptist.

While, John accepted Jesus as being who He claim to be, he needed some reassurance. So, John sent two of his disciples to ask Jesus, "Are you the Coming One, or do we look for another" (11:4).

     The words of Jesus proved what John knew, already. Jesus said to go and tell John what they see and hear. "The blind receive their sight and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; THE

DEAD ARE RAISED UP..." Matthew 11:5. Amen! With all the deeds available through the Bible, we join with John and understood that Jesus was the Messiah. The deeds that Jesus did were no small thing!

     Of course, Lazarus knew about living again; as well as, the thief on the cross. But, why do some miss the promise? The answer is: they miss who Jesus is, that's why. Our hope is being raised up at the Second

Coming of Christ bodily. However, believers in Christ Jesus understand that the promise operates today, within the heart. We are alive because Jesus lives. Further, we live now because Jesus is alive. We ought

not to be in a doubtful position or fail to see what we are in Christ.

     Ephesians 2:5 & 6 records, "Even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Him ... (SINCE WE ARE) ... and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus." How are you doing over there? Good! And, it is wonderful to be in the Lord's work and know that in the present, we are living in Him and working our His teachings within our lives.

    As a Missionary Baptist (persuaded by Scripture), it is clearly understood that we must join with Him to be pleasing. "For where two are gathered together, I am there in the midst of them," Mt. 18:20. In the Lord's New Testament Church, Paul clearly says it so we may see what occurs in His body. "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly about all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, TO

HIM BE GLORY IN THE CHURCH BY CHRIST JESUS THOROUGH OUT ALL AGES, WORLD WITHOUT END, AMEN! (Ephesians 3:21-22).

     In the church, we are raised, now. Believers are presently in the company of the LORD, today! While, most of those who have been saved by the blood of Christ and His raising, we see too many who fail to realize

that their service is so important to God. But, it is so important to them. Thus, the words that John trusted in has to be understood that every word spoken by Jesus always carried His Father's approval. Therefore, all

His words are applicable today. of course.

     Whether, we gather with two or three or, whatever the number may be, we have give God the glory through His Son. Only such service will guarantee that our faith is accepted. Again, we refer to Paul's word of

Ephesians 1:22 and 23. "And He (The Father) put all things under His feet, and gave Him (The Son) to be Head over all things to the church, (the church is His body) which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all

in all." Our hope lies in the raising of the dead at the return of Jesus Christ. Our service lies in the raising up in His body, the church, today.

WORSHIP

"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the

Father is seeking such to worship Him," John 4:23.

         It has always been imperative that every worshipper learns about the church of Jesus, the Christ . It's the place where we are to worship; the only place. Without the church,

there would be no place for man to offer righteous service in a holy manner. And, Finding the correct place to worship the LORD has becomes a real problem that most fail to understand.

                In fact, most attempts of worshipping God fail because people do not understand the body that Jesus Heads. Yet, Jesus promised to be with His people when they recognized His body,

the church by saying, "I will never leave you nor forsake you," Hebrews 13:5.

                But, regardless of man's opinion, ALL WORSHIP service has to be exactly as it is written down in the Word; or, it's not acceptable to God. See Matthew 7:22 & 23 for our

Lord's comment on true worship. And, at the time that Jesus set up the church on earth, it was understood that it shall never go out of existence, until He comes again. Why has church doctrine

changed over the years, we ask? Nevertheless, the Son was given authority over from both heaven and in earth (Mt. 28:18); which, He clearly taught to the disciples in Matthew 28:19-20.

Over two thousands years ago, Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations... teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you...". When did

the commission stop? Or, when did Jesus establish or give approval of other kinds of gatherings?

Therefore, the reasoning among religious people amazes me. They think that the Lord will receive anyone no matter what is taught by their particular group. This Universalism. A doctrine

that Missionary Baptists have always rejected. Missionary Baptists teach that the church has always been on the earth since Pentecost; never going out of existence. This is easily proved by the fact

that Jesus is and, has always has been, the Head of the church. He was in the beginning and He still is today. What did Jesus mean by saying, "... I am with you always, even to the end of the age,"

in Matthew 28:20?

Besides the truth of perpetuity of the church, Missionary Baptists also teach the true meaning of the ordinances. Most do not see the ordinances as a big thing but, just look at how many

sprinkle for baptism; or, how many teach that the body and blood of Jesus is translated into the body of everyone observing the supper.

Just as it is in the New Testament, we see that God's people have always been protected by Him in the Old Testament. God has the plan that will keep His people secure. 2012 began a new

read-through the Bible and, I noticed that God's love is only for those who obey Him and follow according to truth. To see what I mean, listen carefully to the words of Moses. He wants everyone

to understand the closeness that God has for His people.

"But you who have held fast to the Lord your God are alive today, every one of you. Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should

act according to them in the land which you go to possess.

Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say,

'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people,' " Deuteronomy 4:4-6.

Today, worship is just as it was in the days of Israel or, Isaac and Abraham. Worship is, and has always been, by faith. Do we have faith in the teaching of Jesus? Then, we have to realize His

words and His works. What He did is what always will be. Yes! In the finished word and work of Jesus' teaching of salvation, man is saved and God keeps him saved, always. Worship service has

to be what Jesus taught; not what man has come up with in the latter days. I really like what Moses wrote. And, I really love what Jesus taught about WORSHIP SERVICE.

ASHAMED of Being a Christian???

"Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord;" For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed;" "The Lord grant mercy to the house of

Onesiphorus for he often refreshed me; and was not ashamed of my chains;" I Timothy 1:8, 12, 16.

When we are young and, a bit stupid, we felt embarrassment, at times; in human and spiritual matters. But, over the years, our walk shows us that the truth is always the path that

God calls us to walk. And, when we fail to trust in the truth, we are sometimes, ashamed – even, "ashamed of" of our calling and testimony.

In the Greek language, "Ashamed of" is the same as it is for us in everyday life. A young lad, impressed with his own ideas, will lack confidence; whether, its our parents or the Word

of God. Usually, when Dad made a point that was against those we ran with, we were embarrassed. We were "ashamed of" what he said. After all, Dad wasn't too cool when we were young.

But, as the saying goes, "When I was young, Dad didn't even know how to tie his shoes. However, over the years, he has sure gotten a lot smarter." I think it's fair to say that the same thing about

our stand with the Bible; or, our lack of a stance.

As a new convert, we are amazed of what God has done; but, the more we grow up in the Spiritual life, we learn that God is; and, that His Word is workable in everyday life when we put

trust in what is said. It's like leaving home and taking a stand for ourselves. The wonderful truth is, like it was in Mom and Dad's house, dinner is always on the table. God is good all the time.

The best place to start is Paul's great passage found in Romans 1:16. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the

Jew first and also to the Greek." The gospel – the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ – is such a reality that should permeates every believer's life now, in the presence; something

that often comes later in life.

As we grow in God's righteousness, our hearts become firmly fixed upon the gospel-truth. And, since we learn that we are saved because of what Christ did at Calvary on our behalf, we

learn to not be ashamed of the Lord's testimony He has for us to present. We become preachers, even.

Over the years of walking with the Lord, our thoughts learn to be just as Paul, who "was not ASHAMED OF" the gospel or, the things God had him to do or, of those who helped him in

God's service. Onesiphorus (Onie, for short) was a big help in the time of Paul's chains and trials. I wonder if Onie or, Odie or, Ollie, or anyone else for that matter, are thinking of those under dire

distress in God's service? Let's think and pray for those who might be, Brethren. Let's be bold by knowing that God is good, all the time.

Studying the Word

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, rightly dividing the Word of truth," 2 Timothy 2:15

The Bible is God's Word. It's His MIND and REVELATION to mankind. In His Word, we are told to repent and seek the narrow way. In order to do this and follow Jesus, one has to get into the Word of God,

the Bible. How one studies the Word of God is never the issue, of course. But, in this old world of doing so many things, we have limited time. Often, we forget to read God's word; a practice that a busy generation

should not employ. To overcome time-limits, let's look at some ways to be successful in fulfilling what
God asks us to do; that is, READ THE WORD !

DAILY: The practice of daily reading is the best approach for me. I Just sit down and read. The goal is to begin with the Minor Prophets, first. I figure that, when I finish with those, my time is substantially

invested in Bible reading and, I've got to go on with it. And so, the rest of the Bible becomes a "got-to-do-it" kind of thing. It has worked since the beginning of some 20 years ago.

            My method is to stay in the Old Testament until it is totally read. (this year, Genesis is finished already). After the Old is read, the New Testament – our rule of faith and practice for the church – is so

        easy to finish that it takes no time get it read before the year ends. The New Testament is shorter in the number of Books and the books are shorter; other than Obadiah. Then, there's Philemon in the

        New to make up for it. Reading the letters to Timothy are a snap compared to some of the books in the Old.

      BLUE LETTER BIBLE: Late last year (2011) I found this web site that is very helpful in reading the Bible, daily or, in one year. It offers everything! There's helps; such as, LEXICONS, DICTIONARIES,

    and COMMENTARIES. However, what I really enjoy is the voice-over for the entire Bible. It's not perfect (some errors occur) but it's a real blessing. You will truly enjoy the Blue Letter Bible when you

       get to the genealogies of Chronicles. Mr. announcer reads every word and every name in the King James Version. All you have to do is follow along; it's great. Or, if you like other editions, just hit the spot with

       the cursor and you're on the way to NKJV or, NIT.



       IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT: No matter what approach you may employ, the chapters just roll along; and, soon – say, December 31st – you are done with reading God's word in one year. Along with the

       ease of reading the Book, you will also become familiar with some characters that will have you looking for them the next time through the Word. One of my favorites is Gehazi, a faithful follower and servant of

       Elisha.



          Gehazi, whom, I feel a bit sorry for, really helped Elisha in decision making. He also did whatever Elisha asked of him. "Go call the woman" (the Shunammite, 2nd Kings 4:36). And, Gehazi did. I can envision

      Gehazi running to get the woman and placing the staff on her son's body (2 Kings 4:18-31) just as he was told by Elisha's command.



         But, Gehazi had a spark of greed in his heart. Elisha refused to take silver and clothing offered by Naaman, king of Aram, whom was just healed of leprosy. So, Gehazi reasoned, "Behold, my master has spared

    this Naaman, the Aramean, by not receiving from his hands what he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and take something from him," 2 Kings 5:20. As usual, we see one sin compound upon another.

    Gehazi lied to Naaman; then, he lied to his master (2nd Kings 5:22 & 25).

         There is no place for a lying tongue in God's work. Gehazi learned a hard lesson that stayed with him till he died. The LORD gave Gehazi the leprosy that was set for Naaman that Elisha had cured. We assume that

    the account of 2 kings 8:4, happened before Gehazi received the curse of leprosy.

        When we say, 'God is good, all the time,' we have a deeper filling and understanding that comes from reading His Word. It's the feeling of God in your heart. And, what's so good about it is that it stays with the

    reader. Thus, the more one reads, the more one has God dwelling in his heart. We cannot get such eternal truths from anywhere else, either. So, go ahead and read! Read John 3:16 and Matthew 28:19-20. et al,

    and rejoice!

        Not only is studying the Word a good thing, it is also a must. 2 Timothy 2:15 is clear about that. Here, Paul tells Timothy in the second letter to study because, "All Scripture are given by inspiration of God and

    is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect (complete) thoroughly furnished unto all good works" Timothy 3:16-17. All together:

    "READ YOUR BIBLE ... PRAY EVERYDAY."

Paul's Love for Mankind

Paul was Jew by birth. He also enjoyed being a citizen of the Roman government. When asked by a commander of the guard if he was a Roman (Acts 22:27), Paul stated, "... I was born a citizen." A citizen of

Rome was a big deal that carried many privileges. Yet, Paul's spiritual love for the Jewish people was so strong that he would give up anything for the Jews; even his Roman citizenship.

His love for the Jews was such that Paul would even take their place on judgment day. He would gladly trade places for his people, if he could. "For I could wish myself accursed Christ for my

brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh, who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the Law, the service of God, and the promises;" (Romans 9:3-4).

And then, Paul had great love for every natural man; even gentiles. Paul loved all mankind; regardless of their ethnicity. And, while willing to exchange eternal positions with his people, we see that Paul –

based upon the fact that it was not possible to trade with anyone – went to great lengths to express what it meant to be a member of the Lord's body, the church.

Thus, Paul's first love after the Lord, Jesus Christ, was the church; the body of believers holding to the truth of God's teachings. Yes, Paul and the church believed that Jesus was the Messiah. However,

whether Jew or Gentile, Paul explained how anyone could be saved. In Romans 10:9, Paul wrote, "That if thou shalt confess with the mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in the heart that God raised Him from the

dead, you will be saved."

In his writings to the Roman Church, Paul's "...heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved," Romans 10:1. And, while Paul stopped often at the Synagogues, his account in Acts 13:46

shows that He knew it was no use. "It was necessary that the word of God should have been spoken to you: but seeing you put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the gentiles."

Thus, we read of Paul's detailed instructions about serving Christ everywhere. To the Colossians, Paul wrote, "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercy, kindness, humbleness

of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forgiving on another..." Chapter 3:12-13. To the Philippians, "Grace be unto you, and peace...I thank my God upon every remembrance of you..." (1:2-3).

What we have in Paul's teaching on mankind; whether, Jew or Gentile, is that we are to love one another, always and be ready to forgive. The key, I think, is not to take offense in the first place. I appreciate

all in the church. Further, I always keep an eye on the Jews, God chosen people; even now. When it comes to looking at prophecy in these last days, Israel is the clock for us to read what time it is. The Lord is not

through with His people, yet. We also think that God will use those who once knew about God's grace, as well. You know, the backsliders. After all, we must remember that God is more patient than most of us, even

Paul, the Apostle.

THREE PARTS TO PROPHECY

1. The LOVE of Christ for us: Psalms 22:1, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

2. The LORDSHIP of Christ over us: Psalms 23:1, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."

3. The REIGN of Christ over the earth: Psalms 24:1, "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof;

PART ONE - Prophecy is extremely interesting to our faithful hearts. Prophecy should cause us to shape up and get serious about life. And, like Psalms explains,

we learn what God has done and what He is going to do. It is explained partially in Matthew 6:10 by Jesus, "...His will on earth as it is in heaven."

These words of Jesus changes our intentions to become more WORD-LY minded than ever before; we see that all Scripture doesn't focused upon His Second coming, alone.

In Psalms 22, David pre-states what Jesus spoke on Calvary at His physical death. And, David speaks in the everyday voice of mankind. He says that there is

no answer when he calls; in the "morning and in the night season" (22:2). There would be no communication from God, at all; without His Son intervening for us.

In his Psalms, David is telling us that mankind – every person born, could never reach God's attention; except through His wonderful grace. And, so it was with Jesus on the

cross. However, Jesus had to "go it alone." In the death of Jesus, we see that man has no hope unless God intervenes.

While, we are eternally thankful for the death of Jesus, we must look closer and think about the scene, deeply. If they did that to the Son of God, think what man would do,

and is going to do to you, and everyone else, (With God's allowance),of course. But, if they did that to the Son of God, woe to every other man.

Looking at the scene, we have to imagine the love it took to allow the Son of God to experience this kind of death – or, for that matter, any kind of death. But, for certain, as

David records the attitude in the voices of those in Psalm 22, we can't miss man's lack of spirituality. "He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him; let him deliver him, seeing he

delighted in him" (V 8). I am so thankful that Jesus DID trust in His Father's love.

PART TWO - Thank the LORD, Jesus left His physical state and provided man with a glorified body in His resurrection. Jesus is our Shepherd. We are so privileged to live in green

pastures, spiritually. Indeed, the soul (life) is restored and every step we take on the righteous road is for His name's sake (Ps 23:3). When the final enemy of death takes us and we

leave this body, there is no fear; for, His rod and staff comfort us. That's what the WORD says, that's what we believe.

The table is spread and enjoyment fills our life. The worldly foes look in wonder, thinking about it. But, we pray for them. Our desire is that the enemy would look really close and

see the oil of anointing running down our faces. Further, they would see confidence at the same time. And so, we pray in a humble manner, for everyone. We want them to understand

that our future is sure and eternal in God's house; that they need to seek His will, too. According to Psalms 23, the earth is the LORD'S and soon God's kingdom rule shall be placed

upon every square centimeter of His Creation.

PART THREE - Psalms 24:1 informs us that "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof;..." Included is the "...WORLD and all they that dwell therein" (24:1). Then,

we see the word, "Who?" Who shall ascend the hill and stand in His holy place? David lists the righteous requirements. "Clean hands." "Pure heart" and "The abstainer of vanity and

deceitful swearing." These shall receive the blessing and the righteousness from the God of his salvation. Are we the generation that seeks God and lifts up their hands? If we do; that

is, if we truly see what is offered from the the God of all ETERNITY, we would do so gladly, lovingly and humbly. Notice what takes place if we open our gates and doors to God,

"... the LORD of glory." He enters. Again, David informs us of WHO we are calling upon; "The LORD of glory! "Who is the LORD of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory."

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive

you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also," John 14:3.

There is no sweeter hope or thought than the Second Coming of our LORD, Jesus Christ. We ought to dwell upon this promise and understand that we must make our stand with it. He's coming again! And

we remember that all the things spoken by Jesus did occur. We ask, did He "GO" away? Absolutely. Then, clearly He will return. Let's look up to where our redemption lies and settle it in our hearts. We must

be about His business.

Not only is the LORD coming back, His promise is that He will receive us unto Himself. No one is saved and no one can get to the Father without Jesus interceding for them. And, notice, 'Where He will be,

we shall be.' The work of Jesus never stops. Not only reconciled man to the Father, He continues to show how blessed we are within this position of serving and honoring His teachings in our lives.

In His words about His Second Coming, as in John 14:3, we understand that He is coming again to receive us in the glorified body. However; we also know that Jesus is among us, today. He spoke this in

Matthew 28:19-20. In the Great Commission of the church, Jesus said, "All authority is given unto Me in heaven and earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the

Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Then, after charging the church to "observe all things," Jesus said, "...Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age," verse 20 (NKJV).

We see then that Jesus came to earth by man, physically, and that He promised to come again. This time, spiritually. Then, our LORD spoke of the Holy Spirit; which, the world could not receive. At this time,

man would have a tutor for heavenly things. We think that the Holy Spirit that came of the day of Pentecost is indwelling His body, the church today; leading her into all the world. The LORD, Jesus is with us

always.

And, man o' man, do we need the LORD'S leadership. Without His teaching, man goes crazy and the doctrine goes out the door. Doing things become a huge part of our work for Salvation. According to those

without true Biblical teaching, we have to be baptized or, we must hold out to the end. Although, Scripture teaches that "Salvation is not of works lest anyone should boast" (See Eh 2:8-9), man thinks that he

he has to add to the word. However, we can't get anything or anywhere though our self-righteous acts of thinking when it come to salvation from God.



While, it is true that the love of many have waxed cold over the years, replacing decorations and other idolatrous images in the heart for service, we have to understand how it all began. Such practices come

from the natural heart. It's iniquity to God, which Jesus taught in Matthew 24:12. Yes, LAWLESSNESS amounts to fleshly thinking and unacceptable when it comes to serving the LORD. TheTen Commandments

clearly states, "You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth," Exodus 20:4. Further,

"You shalt not bow down to them nor serve them" (V5). Yet, man has a boat-load of things in placed ahead of Jesus. How will they recognize Him when He comes "...and receives them to Himself?"



We think that the idolatrous heart of man has, and will always, demand something to be in front of him so he can be reminded of the LORD. But, it is Jesus. It is Jesus, alone. Nothing can or will replace His

love nor His presence. Whether man desires an idol or a building to be in front of him, doesn't matter; nothing can make Jesus real but who He is and what He taught. At Trinity Missionary Baptist, our major

study is the word of God. We gather, pray and sing and get into the Word, right away – after a song or two.



And, when we think about what Jesus taught. "Heaven and earth will pass away but,my words will by no means pass away," Matthew 24:35. We have to study what was taught. We cannot go anywhere

else for His teaching nor His presence. Thus, our question earlier in the article, "Did Jesus go away?," fits perfectly with the thought that "He is still with us." He went away physically but not Spiritually.

Jesus is in our midst of every service and in the lives of His people in the Person of the Holy Spirit. And, the LORD promised never to leave us nor forsake us.

Therefore, we are looking forward to His physical return with great joy. Joy that removes everything from our spiritual attention. Only Jesus is before us. Amen! this is our desire. There is another point that

has to be considered, too. In John 15:10 and 11, Jesus said, "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. These

things I have spoken to you, that my JOY may remain in you, that your JOY may be full."

It's the word, alone. Nothing can replace it; nor, can man bow down to idols or practice false teaching and be pleasing to Jesus. When we check out the Word, we find that Jesus spoke an awful lot about false

teachers coming and deceiving many. The account is: Jesus was born, taught about the day and the days coming, and called men to serve. We have to remember that it was always about Him! The Bible says, "For

we are saved in this hope (that of redemption of the body), but hope that is seen is not hope...But if we hope for what we do not see, then we eagerly wait for it with perseverance," Romans 8:24 and 25.

REJOICING IN YOUR DAY

This is the day which the LORD hath made;

We will be glad and rejoice in it," Psalm 118:24.

We sometimes think, 'Why were we born in this time segment?' And, there is no doubt that we have thought of living in another time. For example, I thought that the days of the wild west would be exciting.

Bang! Bang! Back then, one could even 'RIDE A HORSE IN CALIFORNIA.' However, there isn't a thing we can do about it; except to be, REJOICING IN OUR DAY.

Yet, throughout history, the thought about living in any particular time period entertains our desires; for a moment, anyway. But, it isn't long before I realize that there was no air conditioning, cars or the

world-wide net. No, I'm happy to be living in these days. And, I rejoice in the LORD, more and more as the days go by.

Further, I am very happy to be born in the forties. Not too early and not too late! But really, the time we came on the earth doesn't matter, now does it? That is really true if we learn to REJOICE in our day; like

the writer of Psalm 119. And, David did, as well – always. He rested well. "I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me," Psalm 3:5.

But, what else would we think about a person who places the LORD first in his life - "From the rising of the sun to its setting," ?, Psalm 113:3. David's delight was "in the law of the LORD," in which he

"meditated day and night," (Ps 1:2). My Bible places stars next to verses that are prophetic. They aid in Bible study. In the Second Psalm, for example, stars are after each verse; which, means "prophecy." I really like

to use the "Open Bible for that reason. And, a star also means the verse will show up again later in Scripture. The Stars indicate many future verses about the Savior, too; such as, Psalm 1:7. "I will surely decree of

the LORD: He said to Me, 'Thou are My Son, Today I have begotten Thee." I appreciate the additional aids and helps provided by various translations so much that I tell the church members of Trinity MBC to buy a

good Bible with lots of helps.

And, we need not stay in the Book of Psalms to see rejoicing in God's plan and the accomplishments in one's life. It's throughout the Bible. None more vividly written than when Mary visited Elizabeth. Both

were pregnant. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby within her "leaped in her womb" (Lk 1;41). Elizabeth was also filled with the Holy Spirit; as well as carrying the forerunner of Jesus, John, the Baptist.

What Mary spoke were words of rejoicing, to be sure. "My soul exalts the LORD, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior" (Lk. 1:47-48). All of us should read and clearly understand what Mary said

in Luke, verses 46 to 55. Her Son would do the miracles and save mankind. What a calling Elizabeth had! What a calling we have!

Of course, Jesus rejoiced, over and over again. His works brought rejoicing to all, as well. Now, because of the LORD will come to earth, Gentiles could rejoice. Paul wrote that Gentiles ought to rejoice; even

rely on another, Christ. Here, Paul gives some real spiritual truth to the Romans. "Jesus Christ...confirmed the promises made unto the fathers" (Rom. 15:7-8). Paul then cites Psalms 18:49 and 117:1; ending with

the prophecy of Isaiah 11:1, "There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust."

Rejoicing means: "to be glad and made happy." When we read Scriptures, we get this feeling, every time. Indeed! God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good. We even read of the creation rejoicing.

God is aware and, He's had enough of Satan's doings. He shall avenge His people, as we read in Revelation. The wicked city of Babylon shall be thrown down, and she (the city) shall be found no more at all. At

that time, "...harpers, and musicians, and pipers, and trumpeters," (Re. 18:22) shall all be gone from the city.

Everything is taken care of by the LORD. Amen! His plan is right on schedule and His people are rejoicing in where they are and what they are doing – at the time they are doing it. The Apostle Paul knew his

calling and his fellowship and, wouldn't it be grand that we did, as well? He was was always concerned with those in the church. In 2nd Corinthians 1:12, Paul said, "For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our

conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, BUT BY THE GRACE OF GOD, WE HAVE OUR CONVERSATION (Life-style) IN THE WORLD, AND MORE ABUNDANTLY TO YOU-WARD."

THE ABRAHAMIC BLESSING

"Pursue peace with all men...without which no one will see the LORD...lest anyone fall short of the grace of God...lest there be any fornicator...like Esau,

who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the BLESSING, he was rejected, for he found no

place for repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears," Hebrews 12:14, 15, 16, 17. (New King James Version)

The serious student of God's Word learns that blessings come from the promise that was made to Abraham. And, the promise is a package. It comes all at once; but, it can be misapplied and even sold. The promise clearly reveals that God has more than escaping Hell for those who trust in Jesus. With the promise comes fellowship. It's liken to that of Abraham who looked for a city, just as Hebrews 11 points out, vividly. Being saved as a sinner occurs at faith in Christ; but, there is a city to enter, too. This is the fellowship that God had in mind with Abraham. It is the same fellowship as with His Son, Jesus. However, what God promised Abraham was not confirmed until Jesus gave His life for man's sin. Salvation is in the death and resurrection of Jesus; the promise had to be worked out before it became an actual working blessing.

'BLESSED' or 'BLESSING' means to be happy or, to be well spoken of. Thus, God 'DECLARED' men to be happy. He blesses when they trust in Jesus; in any sense. And, since only God can save us, He is the only One to declare our position of happiness. And again, His blessings are consistent. God calls men through the promise that he made to Abraham. Galatians 3:16 tells us, "Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, 'And to seeds,' as of many, but as of one, 'And to your Seed,' who is Christ," (NKJV).

Just to have life is wonderful. To walk, talk and do many things, is in itself, is a wonderful blessing. And, we see many blessings from the Lord all through His creation. However, notice that after only eleven verses of the Word, God 'BLESSES' Abraham in the special calling. Before, the LORD did bless Adam and Eve; the seventh day; as well as, Noah and his sons. But, it isn't until Abram comes on the scene in Genesis 12 (so early in God's plan), that the blessing continues on down to men, individually. That's what Galatians 3:16 is telling us. God intended to make the blessing He promised to Abraham available to all mankind. To do this, Jesus would enter man and fulfill God's requirements in order to validate promise.

What a beautiful Covenant that is laid out for mankind; a Covenant that ties man to God, Himself. It provides the same blessing as God told Abraham and, because it is fulfilled, we have more that a promise, we are as Christ is today, according to 1st John 4:17. "Love has been perfected among us in this: That we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world." And, while His promises are sure and true, the fact that it was delayed, shows us that no man could receive any portion of the promise unless Jesus settled the score of sin. Then, at His resurrection, man can now view all spiritual truth through the finished work of Christ. Since Jesus rose, Abraham has the fulfilled promise.

As we view the promise that God made to Abraham, we must see it as a promise that remained unavailable to all. Although, God took that promise to and through Israel, it wasn't until the New Testament was established that a changed life would come about. God's words remained a promise to all men and, not an actual change for man, until Jesus came to earth.
When man receives the promise now, it becomes a working and active truth that takes over our life. But, faith is the key; just as the promise took over the life of Abraham through faith. Today, we no longer have a PROMISE of going to be, we are what Christ is. The workings of the Holy Spirit commune with our spirits. The Father DECLARES us BLESSES, based upon Christ's life and never upon what we do.

It is the good news that the promise is active in Christ, now that we are in the New Testament. Today, the Father will grant to all men what He had promised to Abraham in Genesis 12. And, we must understand that all promises come through trusting what Jesus did. We must believe in Him and His work before God grants His everlasting GRACE.

Many wonderful miracles were performed to men while Jesus walk the earth. But, eternal life came because Jesus died for man's sin. At His death, Jesus took away the curtain that blocked mankind. It was torn from top to bottom in the Temple. Further, what took place spiritually in the death of Christ and His ascension, was to remove the physical and allow all man to see the Spiritual. What God would do was, up to now, hidden through types and shadows. Now, in the New Covenant, every man can go to the Father through Jesus, the Christ. Truly, we are blessed in the Son.

The work of Christ changes our lives, today. We see His blessing today because we look at things from the Spiritual side of life. While, on earth, the miracles that Jesus did were amazing; but, only temporal. Christ healed a man (Mt. 9) to reveal to us a healthy and WHOLE body that is coming. As He came out of the grave, we have the hope of being glorified one day.

Other miracles also provided spiritual truth; such as, when Jesus touched man and gave the blind physical sight. Here, it means that our spiritual vision has been opened up. We can now see God on the throne. As so it goes, Jesus fed 5000, calmed the sea and healed the lepers. What Jesus did was BLESSED both in the physical life and, the coming glory of the new life.

With the veil removed through the death of Jesus, we understand that the fleshly veil is removed and allows us to see God from a spiritual position. We go to the Father through the Son since He took away the veil. We are blessed in our spirits. It is therefore, very important that we understand the PROMISE; and, what is involved in the promise, as well. Again, look at the TITLE VERSE, Esau sold his birthright. We cannot undo what Christ did for us but, our fellowship with God and the Son will be broken unless the PROMISE is taken as life, itself.

TIS THE SEASON

"Preach the word; be instant in season and out of season, reprove,

rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and DOCTRINE," 2nd Timothy 4:2.

ALTOGETHER NOW: 'Tis the season to Preach the word...with all longsuffering,' Fa La La La La – La, La, La, La. Well, when your heart's happy and joyous, your call to preach will be bouncing. Every preacher (and, member) should give a testimony that will be smiling and joyous. That's how it works! Follow Jesus, and the need of every person is evident. Tis the season.

Further, just as gladly, you say that Jesus died for them, as well you. Those already saved and even going to church, need to hear about the beginning the church and Her rich history. The same teaching of the truth has come down through the centuries. It's the same truth held by believers down through the years. And, this truth held by His church, His members, will never stop; for our LORD promised never to forsake them. As missionaries are sent and churches are established, Jesus promised, "...I am with you all the way even to the end of the world" (church age), Matthew 28:19-20. Tis the season.

And, when Paul writes to Timothy, we see that he writes from experience. What he asks of us, he's done or has the heart to be ready to do. Certainly, his conscience was renewed since the road on Damascus but, Paul did what he thought God wanted him to do all the time. "I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day," he told the council (Acts 23:1). These words would mean trouble for the Apostle. In fact, the council, composed of Jews, hated Paul. The High Priest slapped him at the beginning. However, Paul was a cleaver preacher and, very longsuffering. He knew Tis the season.

Clearly, Paul couldn't believe that he was on trial by these two groups of differing beliefs of eternity. The two sects were as far apart as anyone could get. However, with the Sadducees and the Pharisees joining together in these accusations against him, Paul sees an opportunity to put this council is disarray. His safety lie in the fact that Tis the season.

Paul boldly tells them: "I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question" (Acts 23:6). He knew his belief of the resurrection would cause a stir; that the Sadducees did not believe in a resurrection. They did not even believe in angels or that man has a spirit (V 8). On the other side of the Theological aisle were the Pharisees. This sect of the Jews confessed both truths (V 8). Don't you see Paul smiling on the inside? Indeed, Tis the season.

Paul knew that the division was a lot more than merely being in one camp or another. The division grew. It became so strong between the two Jewish sects that the chief captain feared that Paul "... should have been pulled in pieces." He commanded the soldiers to take Paul back to the castle. But, the next day, 40 of the Jews banded to kill Paul (V 12-13). However, Paul was told by the LORD earlier that since, he testified in Jerusalem, God would take him to Rome to tell of the good news there, as well (V 11). Yes! Tis the season.

And so, we see that it's the season to take a stand for Jesus is any time of the year; every time a spiritual need comes around. But, we have to be like Paul. We have to wait on the Lord with a longsuffering attitude. Patience needs to fill the believer's heart. It takes time to wait on others; for them to take the stand. But, didn't we take a long time, ourselves? So, Timothy, "Preach the word, in season and out of season." While, nobody likes to be reproved and rebuked, patience and longsuffering is a must while preaching the Word of God. Nevertheless, Tis the season.

Pastors must learn longsuffering in dealing with the community they are called to work. I know, first hand, that Pastors must go slow, waiting on others. We preach and we teach discipline to the members but, it takes a long time for some to get the message. Even the ones that join with us with both feet, have a tendency (fleshly) to walk away after a very short period of time of church work. However, Tis the season.

But, listen very intently! Paul had a clear heart in all that he did. Yes, he was bothered by the persecution he did to the Lord's church; considering himself to be the least of all Apostles. Yet, Paul never gave up. He was no quitter. And, he went through a lot for his testimony. Paul was always in trouble. The Jews attempted to get rid of him on many occasion. It seems that Paul's life was given to being bound, while traveling to his next preaching adventure. But, what could he do? Tis the season.

So, read Paul's epistle to Timothy, carefully, Brethren. Let's all be ready, in season and out of season to preach the word of God. Don't forget the longsuffering that comes with your ministry. TIS THE SEASON to do the work of the LORD.

THANKSGIVING

"And so they removed the stone. And Jesus raised His eyes, and said, 'Father, I thank thee that Thou heardest Me,'''John 11:41, NASB.

On the RESURRECTION DAY, and it's coming soon, every believer will hear the words that Jesus spoke in John 11:41. All over the earth – every corner, everywhere, the shout shall be heard: "REMOVE THE STONE." This blessed command for His people gives us the most powerful words that we could ever hear. These words are precious. However, And, it was such a miracle - Martha was somewhat doubtful about it occurring. She reasoned, "...Lord, by this time there will be stench, for he hath been dead four days" (V 39).

So, Jesus reminded Martha by stating those powerful and sweet words of John 11:40, "...Did I not say to you, if you believe, you will see the glory of God?" Have we ever seen the glory of God? When we were saved is no doubt the most glorious! I remember back in 1959. That glorious feeling has never left me. I cried like a baby when I received God's love by trusting His Son. Not a very cool for a teenager to cry but, as a lost sinner that just had my sins forgiven in the work of Jesus, I was a happy guy. Now, and since that year, He is my Savior.

Although, I had always believed that Jesus existed, died for man's sin and rose from the grave, I had never given the Lord my heart; my trust and my life. Not until 1959, that is. I never knew the words that Jesus spoke to the men, "REMOVE THE STONE." But, I am a happy man because of those eternal words. Lazarus was raised from the dead. So all saved shall be raised. Can't you hear the LORD saying the words, today? "REMOVE THE STONE," (Jn. 11:39) AMEN!

Holy Day or not, I really want America to give God 'Thanksgiving' for everything we have; especially, the hope of the resurrection. Because of the hope, God reigns in our hearts, daily. And so, although it seems necessary to practice giving the Lord thanks, let's start today to remember His gifts; not only on one Thursday in November, either. Let us always be "THANKFUL TO GOD FOR HIS UNSPEAKABLE GIFT," 2nd Corinthians 9:15.

Just think of this one blessing, alone: God hears us when we pray. And, the reason God hears us pray comes only from the special gift and blessing that Jesus provided. Further, when we truly hear what Jesus is saying, we learn a very important fact. And, that is; all things come from the Father. Jesus knew that He had to teach this truth everywhere. We see it in His prayers. He was so thankful that His Father heard Him. Thus, if Jesus was thankful, shouldn't you and I give God glory for hearing us? Amen!

The Son loved the Father, giving all to Him. We can't miss this, once we see Him in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus prayed that the cup might pass from Him that night. But, as we have learned, His death had been settled before the foundation of the world (See, 1st Peter 1:18-21). The fact of actual dying was, for Jesus as a man, a very tough situation. He was righteous; without ever doing a sin. Thus, while the Son of God came to do the Father's will, it seems that Jesus had to remind Himself of His purpose of coming to earth and what He came to do.

Certainly, His dying was harsh and painful. And, while all this is true for Him, as a man, when we look closer, we hear His words personally. "Is there any other way?", He asked. Soon, we learn that He was asking these question for all mankind, sinners like you and I. Is there any other way? There was not. Truly, His words were for us, as well as for the righteous Jesus, ready to be offered. Our LORD knew that man broke the Law and, also knew that He had to pay the price for man, as man. It is glorious to realize that Jesus was also speaking our behalf and for our benefit. How can we not trust His work today, friend?

And, His words were so spiritual and, so powerful, "...yet, not as I will but as Thy wilt," (Mt. 26:39). The concern of the Son was for His Father, in heaven. A little further down – verse 42 – Jesus makes this Holy and precious statement, "My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Thy will be done." This time – for the first time – man speaks in true obedience to God. And, because He was willing to die for for mankind, Eternal life is given to all who trust in His holy offering.

The time was at hand for God's Son. True, the Second Person of the God Head agreed to the earlier plan, "before the foundation of the world;" but, now, in the garden, the time had arrived. His Father now could, and would, place Jesus on the cross. The Son of God met all the needed righteous requirements of the Law and now, it could be set aside. With a fulfilled Law, man could now be eternally saved from sin because of the death of the Son, Jesus.

At Calvary, we learn that all the Old Testament pictures were developed. The Lamb was slain (Ex. 12). Now that the true blood of an innocence and righteous man was offered, the curtain between the Holy place and the Holiest was, finally, torn in two. Now, every man is given access to God. As the Old was taken away, the beginning of the New Testament began. It all happened on that glorious day because of the One righteous man who would die for everyone. Thank You God for the gift of Your Son. We are so THANKFUL.

THEMES, MOTIFS AND PROPHECIES

"Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above,coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow," James 1:17.

"From cover to cover" and "lid to lid" are phrases we love to us when expressing our total belief in God's word. There has never been doubt. Every word written; every topic, every theme, motif and prophecy are inspired by the LORD ALMIGHTY. While, the Word can be difficult to understand, by God's grace, faith will get us to the needed meaning.

Thus, it is extremely important to realize that, what God started, He certainly will finish. There isn't any change. Although, many false prophets are around, man's input is insignificant. One reason for trust is the words of Jesus: "Heaven and earth will pass away but My words shall not pass away," Matthew 24:35.

In fact, the Bible clearly states that God's plan was fixed "Before the foundation of the world" (laying down the earth). Since, the plan is finished before the earth was created, the possibility for change is nil, zero, nada!

False prophets don't like it, but God said that He will maintain the plan forever. When it comes to God's predestinated plan, the LORD is constant and unbending. So, if a prophet comes after the 1st Century, he is false. Remember 2nd Timothy 3:16, always. "All Scripture is given by inspiration by God..."

Thus, the LORD Almighty gives His Themes, Motifs and prophecies in order to keep His people on the "straight and narrow" that Jesus taught in Matthew 7:13 and 14.

Of course, everyone has their favorite study places. One may enjoy studying the nation of Israel. People love to read of the lineage going from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The nation of Israel is vividly clear within God's promises in this study.

Concerning these promises made to Abraham, we learn that Jesus was born from his lineage and confirms the promise. Jesus was Jewish. Galatians 3:16 clearly states that the promise, however, was not to the many within the nation but, "'...to your Seed', that is Christ." Christ has all God's promises; for, He is the Promised One. Trust Him, and Him, alone.

When it comes to study the teachings of Jesus, we realize that the Son of God is the end of all promises. If we are going to claim the promises made, we learn about them through Abraham but, we look to Jesus because He fulfilled what was promised.

And, there are many promises in the Word that trills us. My love for Christ's shedding His blood on Calvary lowers my though of myself. It is so humbling that I know that I can do nothing but trust in the work that Jesus accomplished for me. Of course, the blood was a continual picture within the Old Testament. Hebrews 9:22 references this fact with: "Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins."

Then, there's the Kingdom study, the most clear teaching about our calling in the Bible. To me, this study places believers within the kingdom when Jesus returns; but, as Matthew 7:21b records, not all shall inherit the kingdom; "...but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven."

The kingdom is set up when Jesus returns, right here on the earth. Don't think you'll fly around in the air; for, God has a physical kingdom that Jesus shall rule. To be saved by Christ's blood means that we are called to His service, as well. So, study the kingdom and your spiritual eyes will be enlightened.

I also love to study the church and the places within the Kingdom. But, in all the studies, one thing is clear: the themes, motifs and prophecies always match. What was promised occurred or, it will, at the Second Coming.

"Before the foundation of the Word" (1st Pet. 1:20) expresses that the Almighty attached Himself to His plan before any creation happened.

Further, the LORD attached mankind to the plan (to God, Himself) by having Jesus die in their place. To be truly blesses, read carefully, Ephesians 2:10. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

DOES JESUS KNOW YOUR NAME?

"...to him that overcometh will I ... give him a white stone, and NEW NAME written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it," Rev. 2:17.

Without question, the Lord of Heaven considers names extremely important. God often changes names of those who walk a straight and spiritual life; like that of Abraham, known as God's friend (2 Chron. 20:7).

Further, as our Headline verse reveals, God changed the name of His servant to indicate the new position. "Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but the name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee," Genesis 17:5.

Clearly, a new name is require to reflect the new nature within the heart of those who believe in the Lord. In the Old Testament, we read of God speaking to only a few by name; and, it was - for the most part - those within Israel.

For the nations surrounding Israel, God LUMPED them into "The Phillistines" and "The Moabites, et al." And, until the New Covenant was available to all of faith, the Bible referred to non-Jews as "Gentiles."

The subject of name-change has a most precious verse in Matthew 1:21. Here, the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and stated, "...thou shalt call his name JESUS: for He shall saved His people from their sins." Translated, JESUS is Joshua and means, "Jehovah is salvation." Yes! Names are important to God.

How blessed is the Lord to all of us? God is incarnated and takes our place on the cross to save us from sin. He arose for our justification and sits now at God's right hand making intercession for our the prayers we offer (See Hebrews 7:25).

Indeed, every church member and, even the saved by the skin of their teeth, ought to "...consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession," Heb. 3:1.

And so it goes. Our relationship with Jesus means that we are to have a name change; a new name as Revelation 2:17 records. We see this change begin in the Book of Acts, Chapter 11. "...that a whole year they (Apostles) assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first at Antioch."

The next time we are reading our Bible through in one year and come upon all those lineages that we think of as unnecessary and hard to pronounce correctly, let's be personal about it. Let's look carefully to see if we are there, as well as, Elizur the son of Shedeur, the son of Rueben.

Can you imagine YOUR NAME inserted in the blessing and promises of God? Amen! We are very egotistical and self centered. But, when JAMES appears in the Word, I am humbled knowing God has given Himself just for me. He loves you and will give you a new name...that is, if you overcome the world and faithfully serve Him.

The Miracles Jesus Did

"...Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these MIRACLES that thou doest, except God be with him," Jn 3:2b.

When Jesus began to do miracles, He turned the water into wine in Cana. Then, on the second journey to Cana, Jesus really performed for mankind. He cured a child's sickness. The child was the son of a nobleman who went to see Jesus about this problem. and was told to "Go thy way; thy son liveth," John 4:50.

Later, as the nobleman headed home, he met his servants coming the other way. They were happy to report the good news that his son was no longer in danger. Calculating the time, he knew it was when Jesus told him the same great news, earlier. As a result, the nobleman believed in the Person of Jesus as Lord; and later, his entire house trusted in the Messiah, too.

Of course, the purpose of miracles was to bring people to Christ. Miracles, as Nicodemus stated in John 3:2, were proof that God was with Jesus. And, later on, Peter stood up on the day of Pentecost and said, "Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved among you by MIRACLES and WONDERS and SIGNS, which God did by Him in the midst of you..." Acts 2:22. While, all things pointed to Jesus as the Christ at that time, people's excuses were remove. But, as it is in all times, men are the same. They are selfish and out for their own gain, only.

Yes, God's power is seen in the miracles. Miracles show men that Jesus was given the power from heaven as the Son of God. However, attitudes toward the Savior were not easy for men to adjust. People still held on to their old way of life. In John, chapter six, we are amazed at man's choice. This time, Jesus wasn't as kind, either. He told the five thousand, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled."

We learn quickly that when men become curious and ask about doing the works of God, Jesus explains what the purpose of miracles are. Miracles, He said, are to point all men to Him. That, He is the Savior. "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent," John 6:29. But, wouldn't you know it, these men missed the miracle that they just enjoyed. The meaning went only to their stomachs. Their were full but, their spirits remained empty. Jesus was right, they sought out food, not the Savior. Why do we serve Christ? That should be studied, don't you think?

Miracles never go away, either. The Jews had a rich history of them; going all the way back to Moses' time when God gave them manna so they could continue to live. If the Jews could only tie the two together – like the nobleman, they would see the miracles as life coming from God. Then, in the heart of each Jew, no problem would exist. Easily, they could relate each miraculous gift to the Son of God, Jesus. But, like people today, while they seemed to be honest and serious about this question on miracles; the Jews still question Jesus, asking, what "sign" He would give so they could believe on Him? (Jn. 6:30). And, this is after eating all the fish they wanted.

But here, in chapter six, Jesus spends a lot of time telling the Jews about the true bread that came "down from heaven, and giveth life to the whole world" (Jn. 6:33). At the end of the meeting, "...many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him," Jn. 6:66. (I wonder if the mark of the beast will be on those who walk away? See the 666?)

Jesus then, turns to His disciples, the Apostles, and asks, "Will ye also go away?" (Jn. 6:67). Peter, their spokesman, it seems, answered, "Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life," (Jn. 6:67). For the true disciple, it is not what is done for them, physically. What every true believer realizes is the Person of the Son of God, Jesus. He saved them. He will never leave nor forsake them. Disciples do not place much upon physical things. Further, that's the reason that we study the Bible, alone. God's words are spiritual truths that feed the spirit of man; something that comes from the kitchen can never do.

Certainly, miracles are important to every student of the Word. Miracles point out just who Jesus is. But, when we view the world's creation, the flood, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost and, the things written about the last days, we are drawn closer than John's head on the breast of Jesus.

Finally, when we think Biblically, we are drawn closer and closer to the One that saved us and uses us. His truth surpasses all things within this world. While, most people seek a miracle, they normally want it for their physical side of life. What is taught by Jesus is not considered, unless it fits into the physical category. Like we said, attitudes toward the Savior are not easily adjusted. People still, even within the Word of God, seek for what improves their physical life.

Disciples love miracles, too. Yet, as disciples follow Jesus and do what the ministry calls for them to do, the calling overrides what the miracle may or, may not produce. It's the ministry that controls their lives. Do you want to follow Jesus? You might want to read Paul, as he elaborates on what is entailed. In 2 Corinthians 6:3, Paul reports, "Giving no offense in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed." Paul writes some things that are not pretty to the flesh. Although, he had more power to do miracles than the rest, Paul lists "stripes, imprisonments, in tumults (beatings), labors, watchings and fastings" all under the heading of: "...approving ourselves as the ministers of God" (6:4). A dedicated disciple asks the LORD for Salvation and service. These are the miracles that moves every disciple to follow and not walk away. They know that there is no other place to go. Let the Lord lead you, today.

WASHING BY THE WORD

"Husbands, love you wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it;

That He might sanctify it by the washing of the word," Ephesians 5:25, 26.

I just washed my hands. Filth is all over the place and we get dirty. No wonder Mom always said, "Wash those hands." Mom was right! Washing of the hands keeps away germs; which can lead to disease and sickness.

While, the phrase "Cleanliness is next to Godliness," is not in the Bible, verbatim, we read that we must stay clean, if we want to approach the Holy God. In our title verse (Eph. 5:25,26), we understand that even the church of Jesus needs washing by the Word.

Now, it is not difficult to understand that WASHINGS are needed to remove the sin stain of mankind. It all begins with when we were saved. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit," Titus 3:5.

And, it all comes through the Son, Jesus Christ. "Which He shed upon us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior," Titus 3:6. But, Paul quickly adds, "...that those who have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works..." (3:8).

Added to Paul's words, we read that Hebrews 10:22 instructs us to "...wash our bodies with pure water;" which again, has to be the Word of God. Further, when we began – when we were saved – we were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. This is clearly taught by Paul in Ephesians 1:13. "In whom ye also trusted in Christ, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise."

We were sealed but, are we obeying the word of God. What about service and the washing that takes place within the church? Without question, John lays it out for us. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to CLEANSE us from all righteousness," 1st John 1:9. Sin is everywhere and we get dirty as we walk within this world. "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves..." (I Jn. 1:8) .

Scripture remains true, of course, in every step of service. What we have is a total and finished work of Christ. It all begins in faith and continues as we walk within His truth. What the church has to see is that there is nothing that we can do except honor what Jesus has already done. Obedience comes by following the Bible in all it's ordinances. Not all churches do this and many believers never get into a church, at all.

To understand a finished work, in which every man is transferred from sin to Christ, we must study the Bible, carefully. Jesus "abolished in His flesh the enmity" in order to accomplish man's forgiveness. Without His work, man is eternally lost and undone. And then, as the title verse states, the church is washed; not by any work we do, but by the washing of the word. Church members know of His work and they honor it with their lives. They attend services and they change what is necessary to change. And, we pray, a lot.

Of course, the Bible is written to churches for the most part (Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, etc.). Within the church letters however, we read of where we were cleansed and how we are to stay clean as were serve in the body of Christ, His church. So, what's the difference? What will be the final standing of men on the resurrection day?

I have learned many years ago that the Kingdom of God teaching gives us what is needed to see Christ's work, the church and, faithfulness to His work within His church. From the Old Testament accounts of FIRST BORN SONS – Isaac, Jacob and Israel, the truth says that faith is the answer. And, faith never stops. The promise was to Abraham that ran though his son, Isaac; then, to Jacob. Esau thought he needed food rather than the First Born position he gave up when he accepted the beans Isaac gave him.

When we come to the New Testament, there is a continuation of the first born son; but, now Gentiles come into the picture, as well. In essence, due to the finished work of Christ, we are born again by His blood's atonement. We are baptized into His body, the church; which, alone has authority and, we obey the Word of God by faith. The mercy of God is extended to us in this manner, I believe.

Paul did, too, instructing the Ephesian Church not allow "immortality or any impurity or greed even be named among you, as is proper among saints" (Eph. 5:3). The warning is clear. "For this you know with certainty,that no immoral or impure person or covetous man,who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the KINGDOM OF CHRIST AND OF GOD" (5:5).

Let the word of God wash us! Nothing else can do the job. The Jews could not understand the finished work of Christ and held on to doing things as they tried to please the Lord of heaven. But, to no avail. Once saved, always saved is Biblical. However, we are saved to honor the Lord with our lives. Those who obey and heed the Scriptures are His people, today; just like Israel was in the Old.

It is glorious to be saved AND it's glorious to serve. In the NASB, Romans states, "that if you confess with the mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, YOU SHALL BE SAVED. For with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation" (Rom. 10:9-10). However, don't forget the remaining Scripture that demands service and, certainly do not forget the Kingdom truth.

FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD

It seems that I should write about consistency since I had to miss nearly a month of GoodNewsLetters. Consistency is what the Good News is all about; what God says will be. Amen! We have learned to trust God's word, all the time – every time. Further, that's what we are attempting to accomplish in the Letters.

We attempt to present the truth by untangling its mysteries, putting verses and prophecies together and understand the one great message of God's love.

Certainly, God is consistent. From Genesis to Revelation, the plan is the same – "God's will done on earth as it is in heaven" (Mt. 6:19).

And so, we want to pray for His Kingdom come, but we also want to expect the Kingdom of God to come to the earth. In the Current Events and Biblical prophecies, we see strongly much to indicate that Jesus is coming soon. When He does arrive, He will bring the Kingdom with Him. Today, "Thy kingdom come" is not far from any of us.

FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD PRESENTS a view of the Trinity looking down, GOING all the way to the Second Coming of Jesus, the Christ. In other words, God saw all things needed for the creation and for its nurture. It is God's Salvation and the only One to be able to complete it would be Jesus, the Son. Jesus did the job and until He finally steps off the throne at the end of the Millennium. He rules until then-even today within His body the Church.

God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit viewed man's rebellion; then, the entrance of sin and the Fall of mankind through Adam. But, God's word beautifully explains the Lord's love for mankind and He planned the needed work. And, all this was all settled before the earth's foundation was laid down – before the laying down of the creation.

In His makeup, God is omniscience, knowing what is needed to save man. We must learn to trust the Lord in His REDEMPTION matter. Take a long look at God's plan and see yourself right in the middle of it. You'll be blessed.

1. Peter teaches us HOW AND WHEN God settled man's redemption. "For as much as you know that you were NOT redeemed by corruptible things (silver, gold, vain lifestyles from the fathers) but with the precious blood of Christ...Who verily was foreordained before the FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD," 1st Peter 1:18-20.

2. In the Book of Matthew, we are told that these "...things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world" (13:35b).

3, God's kingdom was prepared before the foundation of the world, too. When Jesus gathers His disciples and tells them "...Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared before the foundation of the world:" (Matt. 25:34).

4. A very precious teaching is God's love. In John 17:24, we learn that the Son was so loved "before the foundation of the world." When it came time to initiate God's love to the world, Jesus was willing to leave His special and unique abode as the only son of the Father. He gave up that position for you and me. No wonder His Father was in love with His Son.

5. Finally, notice carefully the finished work of Jesus. "...although the works were finished from the foundation of the world" (Hebrews 5:3).

Can we imagine that God's word is true. What He states is so true that it is to be considered as a finished event, even before anything takes places; as in our study today, the FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.

A FINISHED WORK

"...I have finished the work which You have given me to do," John 17:4, NKJ.

I think of this passage as if I was there when the Holy Trinity talked about man's salvation. It is personal! Between God and me, Jesus doing the mediation of fellowship.

And, I am in awe on two points, at least. First, that God would go through so much to bring me out of sin; and second, that Jesus was willing to leave His exclusive abode as the only son of the Father to save me.

Think about it, Jesus became a new creation to bring us into His plan. Jesus will forever be the glorified man, having the body that He was raised in at the resurrection. But, notice this blessing!!! "And, because you are sons, God hat sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, Abba, Father!" (Gal. 4:6). Never again, will Jesus be the only son, as He was before the creation. Yes, God really does love us, doesn't He?

If I were truly with God when they discussed the creation, I would be way back there; before the foundation of the world; a time before the earth was created. Yes! Jesus came to save the world and mankind in time, "although the works were finished from the foundations of the world" (Heb 4:3, NKJ).

As I listen in, I learn that His work is a completed work. My ears open more. My faith is intrigued. I'm there by faith, of course; believing in all accounts I hear from the Word of God. I have learned that the plan is settled in the work of God's Son, the Person of Jesus. Therefore, just as the foundation of the creation was laid - based upon the Son's willingness to redeem it, so man's salvation is "so laid." All the creation is based upon what Christ would accomplish when He would bring salvation to earth. Then, after the millenium, a new earth will be constructed to house mankind.

Concerning man, he remains lost, undone and fleshly. This was known even before the Lord laid down the creation. Yes, before Adam sinned, God was aware of the Fall of mankind. The work of Jesus was to save man out of the world first, then, give Him the earth to rule over at His return. That, my friend, is a wonderful plan.

As I listen in to this eternal coversation, I get a definite meaning of God's purpose. I learn the precise meaning, as well as, all the limits involved in the plan of man's salvation. Jesus entered the world of man to "...finish the work" which the Father gave Him. No one but Jesus could do this work; not angels or any other man, only Jesus (See, Heb. 1:4-7).

Simply put, God has, from the beginning, chosen salvation of man to be by grace. It is a salvation that comes only through God's mercy and love. While, there have always been religious thoughts of salvation about being saved, we must go to the Word and let it be settled. Clearly, there is no energy that man expends to get him saved or stay saved. Further, neither is there any energy of work that man may accomplish in order to serve the Lord, see Ephesians 2:8-9. Salvation is by grace, through faith from beginning to the end.

Just how important is it to know God's plan and it's finished work? Well, listen to the Apostle Peter. "...He indeed was foreordained before the foundations of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you" (1:20, NKJ). That 'YOU' means you and it means me. God loves us and Jesus was willing to die for our sins. Until we get this eternal truth into our hearts, God's plan will not mean much to man. However, we see that the foundation of salvation was established upon the Son of God. It's what Jesus did, and only what He did, that brings salvation to man. Nothing else!

God's 'foundation plan' was laid down in the beginning. But, we see more of it recorded as we study His Word. There is a foundation of service in 1st Corinthians 3:11, informing us that "...no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ." This foundation is "built upon the Apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone;" (Eph. 2:20).

Without question, God's foundations are solid. Once established, His foundation stands firm to the end. Do you know this? Well, listen carefully to Paul, once again, "The Lord knows those who are His," (2 Tim. 2:19). The Lord knows us because we are in the plan that was laid down from the foundations fo the world. Learn it, carefully. Love it!

Finally, let's take what Jesus did, His work, to it's end and see what the Bible instructs us about our position today. While, the work of Jesus began before the creaton of the earth, it is eternal and never ends. His plan operates within His people today and will at His return.

Hebrews 2:9-11 teaches that "...Jesus was made a little lower that the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor...by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him...to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies those who are sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: "I will declare Youur name to My brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will sing praise to You"

The work of Jesus continues today. Look up and see Him who "...when He had purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high," Hebrews 1:3. It's an amazing thing; but, God allows us to get right where He is. It has to be that way. Dead man can do nothing, God, not only saves us, He raises us up to sit in the heavenlies with His Son, Jesus, the Christ.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven," Matthew 6:9-10.

At the graduation ceremonies from grade school, our class sang "The Lord's Prayer." Several years later, I learned that Jesus taught His disciples to pray this prayer of Matthew 6:9. And today, I love to hear it; whether, sung or read. When you read it yourself, it's meaning fills you heart with joy as you listen to what Jesus taught about the Lord plan and what He had in mind, eternally, for mankind.

We call it the Lord's prayer when, actually it is the Disciple's Prayer. The prayer is God's purpose for man when Jesus returns. But, either way, the kingdom message carries truth about what we are to learn and practice, now. When believed and applied, the Disciples Prayer controls our lives today, and in church service.

Certainly, there's some present practice that the prayer teaches. Here's just a few points of the kingdom message.

1. We are to pray for the kingdom to come because it is not here, yet. (Eph. 1:13-14). When Jesus comes, the earth will have peace.

2. We are to know what the kingdom means by the parables as Jesus taught. It shows that not all the saved will be ready at His return.

3. The kingdom is an inheritance (Mt. 7:21). Understanding this truth makes the book of Revelation easier to study.

4. The kingdom is a mystery. The New Covenant reveals what the mystery is by the teachings of Jesus.

5. Presently, Israel is cut. Although, God's time-clock, the nation has to accept Jesus before She is restored to the Abrahamic Covenant.

6. The millenium is, of course, 1000 years long. It's when Jesus rules over the kingdom on earth. Today, His Heads His local church.

7. One teaching that humbles the heart is when Jesus steps off the throne (I Cor. 15:24-28) - at the end of the 1000 yrs. He then takes His position among those He died for; His people. Now, that my Brothers and Sisters is the meaning of love and how God's plan is achieved.

In order to know God's plan, we must repent and trust God's Son, Jesus Christ. Then, after we are saved, the Disciples Prayer begins with the Father. First, we acknowledged His holy Name and dwelling; then, we begin to see His plan: His will done on earth - "as it is in heaven," Matthew 6:9.

The prayer addresses the Holy Father in heaven with a purpose. We don't offer God just any words that sounds good; we offer Him the same prayer Jesus taught His disciples. A prayer of knowing that His "Kingdom (is to) Come." Man has an eternal place to live on Earth, finally.

Looking back, we see Eden was a type of what God has for man on the earthly orb. Let us pray for the day that we shall see His will done on earth just as it is in heaven (Mt. 6:10).

PROPHECY: Near & Far

"And aIso upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit (V29).

"And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke (V30).

"The sun shall be into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord..." (V31).

Joel's Prophecy of Chapter two and Chapter two of Acts, Peter's message on the day of Pentecost.

The words: "In those days" of Joel's prophecy, we see 2000 years between verse 29 and verse 30. The first portion of prophecy is 800 years before Christ. After, the first portion, 2000 years will expire before the second prophecy is realized; and, today, we are almost there. For the serious Bible student, it doesn't take long before we learn to think in terms of "Near and Far."

"Near and far," as our Bible teacher, David Barnum pointed out, have some announcements occur at one time. while others take place at a different time; even though prophecies are within the same passage of Scripture. Certainly, we see this the titled prophecy of Joel and Actss, as listed above.

It is clear that the Holy Spirit came upon the church in the "Last days;" according to the event known as "The Day of Pentecost." And, further, to read it correctly, the Holy Spirit is said to come upon the world just before Jesus returns; "AT THE SECOND COMING. This time will not be such a blessing fom God, however. Again, we see a long time between Pentecost and Jesus' Second coming - 2000 years long.

What we have to see is how prophecies are tied together; even, if they are within the same chapter. For example, in Acts, Chapter Two, Peter longs for Israel to understand how the prophecy of Joel is directly related to Pentecost and the Second Coming. Peter informs Israel that the prophecy has a "Near and Far" meaning.

After acknowledging that Israel knew very well what Jesus did on their behalf - all the miracles and signs - Peter cries out to the nation about what has just occured (v22). He longs for Israel to get the prophecies tied together. Peter wants the nation to be ready "before the great and terrible day of the Lord come:" (V20).

It is Peter's inward desire that the nation of Israel understand "that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (V21). "Hear these words," he cries out to the many thousands in attendance (V22), telling them that Jesus of Nazareth was approved by God; that Jesus was delivered by God's determinate counsel; that, even though the nation crucified Jesus, the Christ, "...God raised up; having loosed the pains of death; because it was not possible that he should be holden of it" (Acts 2:22-23).

Peter's message also includes the hope that David had and looked forward to; something that Israel failed to grasp. "I forsaw the Lord alsways before my face;...therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption" (Acts 2:25-27). Now, that's a wonderful hope!

Whether, Near or Far, all prophecies are determined by Jesus, the Lord's Christ (Annointed One). David was the greatest king of Israel, and Peter thought that the nation would listen and see that David looked to Jesus about his future; that is, the resurrection. Peter wanted Israel to understand that David look beyound this physical life. "David," Peter stated, "... is both dead and buried..." (V29).

David's hope was to be raised and Peter wanted all of Israel to have the same assurance. Here, in the Book of Acts, Peter's Pentacostal message becomes very excited. Peter mentioned that patriarch David was a prophet; then, Peter shows Israel's about David's hope: "...that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would rasie up Christ to sit on his throne" (Acts 2:29-30).

What we have to know is that Jesus is our hope for us today. It doesn't matter if we stay in the book of Acts and the time of Peter's message; or, if we come all the way down to our time, the message doesn't change. "This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we are all witnesses" Acts 2:32).

Finally, Peter preaches to Israel "...that God hath made that same Jesus...both Lord and Christ" (Messiah) Acts 2:36. "Then Peter said unto them, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (V38).

The Near message is that we recieve Jesus as our savior. The Far message is that we look for His coming. Are you saved and serving?

WHY JESUS HAD TO DIE

"But God commendeth His love toward us, in that,

while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us," Romans 5:8.

Just look at the answer provided for us in Romans 5:8. The TITLED VERSE points it out that Christ died because we are sinners. If man was to be saved from His flesh, it was necessary that Christ died. No other way could man pay the required penalty and be released from deaths bondage.

There is no other way! Due to the natural birth of the flesh, sin lives within the flesh. Man, cannot please God in the flesh. Mankind must have a new birth. Man needs to be born again; not of his parents but from above, by the Heavenly Father.

Paul pointed out our sinful tendencies in Romans 7:18: "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the wishing is present in me, but the doing of good is not." While, Paul wanted to, he just could not do good.

Housed within the flesh, man's spirit wants to do good; even, thinks he does good. But. he can't. Man's spirit is in bondage; held until he becomes free by trusting in what Jesus did for him by dying on the cross.

That's why Jesus had to die; to release man's spirit from bondage. And, as the song goes, the longer I serve Him, the sweeter and better it goes. I appreciate what He accomplished for me and for all who trust in the work of His Son, Jesus.

I have clearly learned that the flesh present a paradox to anyone who wants to do what the Bible demands. We see what to do, but our flesh denies the doing. The flesh is contadictory to spiritual matters. And, Paul wants us to grasp this fact. "...I find then a law, that, when I would do do good, evil is present witih me. For I delight in the law of God after the inwarded man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

Well, Paul points out man's weaknesses. It's his fallen flesh. So, man changes the way of salvation, basing it upon our doing things; in order to secure God's blessings. Therefore, it is extremely important to read Paul's next statement in 7:24. "O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

Verse 25 answers quickly what is required. "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord." The Bible settles the paradox; but, we must understand what took place and not think for ourselves; that is, that we can accomplish anything for the Lord. What we have to do is listen to what the Word of God states; believe it and trust it, alone. Paul, once again: "So, then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin" (Rom. 7:25b).

Christ was aware that He alone could pay for man's sin; even, "before the foundation of the world" (I Pe. 1:20). Further, while on earth, Jesus taught the truth of service. "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Mt. 26:41).

Jesus prayed that man might understand why He came to earth. It was to rescue man. To do this, Jesus had to take upon flesh, becoming man, if man was to be saved from sin. Jesus was a fulfillment of the Old Testament; as Hebrews 2:17 says, "In all things it behoved Him to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, TO MAKE RECONCILIATION FOR THE SINS OF THE PEOPLE."

The Old Testament shows a need for daily sacrifices. But, now, the Book of Hebrews tells that offerings of blood sacrifices for the sins of the people are no longer needed. Why are they no longer needed? Because Jesus came to earth and, He died for man's sin. "Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation," Hebrews 9:28.

So, don't trust in the flesh. But, if anyone thought that the flesh could do God's will, it was the Apostle Paul. Fortunately, he learned the lesson, completely. After being struck down on the road to Damascus, Paul changed his Theology from the Law to grace. Paul had come to know that "by the deeds of the Law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight; for by the Law is the knowledge of sin" (Rom. 3:20).

While, the Bible, consistently shows of Jesus dying for our sins, we cite the Book of Ist John:4:2. John avows, "Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God."

Because Jesus came to save man, John wants us to know what it means. John wants us to know that Jesus settled the matter, instructing us in the work of Christ. "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God:" (1st Jn. 5:1). We're just waiting for the glorified body at the Second Coming of Christ.

Further, as long as man remains a created being and, not a born again being, he shall always be a sinner. A major point on this is: 'If you were placed in the "Garden of Eden," you would have disobeyed God, just as Adam did. In fact, if the Lord created a thousand men and put them in care of the creation, it would result in sinful disobedience. '

Yes, the spirit of man wants to do what God says, it's just that he can't. Man cannot be obedient in the flesh and by doing fleshly things. There is a need for man to have birth of his spirit; which, releases man from Satan's control, eternally.

Thus, Paul's Roman Road is so instructive to salvation that we list a few of what Paul taught. First, "...there is none righteous, no, not one..." Romans 3:10. Then, Paul learned that "...all have sinned, and, come short of the glory of God," Romans 3:23. And, how happy Paul was when he finally learned of God's love. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us," Romans 5:8.

If man doesn't trust in God's provision for sin, he shall forever be separated and remain in death. But, we preach Christ and you must learn what He did for you. Study this vivid picture: On the cross, with one hand, Jesus grabbed the Father's hand; and, with the other hand, He took hold of every sinner in the world. In His eternal grab, man is forever saved. The Man-God united man and God, once again." But, it takes man to trust in the Savior. Do you believe? Have you trusted in His death and know that you are saved?

TIME FOR A STUDY ON THE "END TIMES"

"Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh," Matthew 24:44.

Jesus expects us to as aware of these last days. We might liken what He means by the game of baseball. If you are the "Third Baseman," your are thinking that the ball will be hit right at you on every pitch. Not only on the tip-toes, every player knows what to do with the ball once he gets it - throw to 1st Base? Double play? Yes, in any sport, every positioned player has learned to "watch" and be ready. Every one knows that he has to execute his position. He is always on guard.

Jesus is coming. We just don't know what hour it will be; therefore, He instructed to "Watch." What we watch for; what will happen; and, what our deportment is to be during these END TIMES days, are all vital to our Christian stand against the world and the god of this world. Thus, here's a number of facts about watching that comes from Matthew 24 and from Paul's writing to the Church of Thessalonica.

Number One: Don't be decieved. "Take heed that no one deceive you," Matthew 24:4. There will be, and has been, many prophets that are false. These, even say that Jesus is the Christ; "and shall deceive many" (Mt. 24:5). Concerning our time - the End Times - if others leave, we must 'stay put.' "...if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not," Matthew 24:23.

Number Two: Peace/Wars. While, wars and rumors thereof have always occured, I think that the second thought about the Second coming of Christ is that we should expect peace to come to the entire world to have a confusing effect upon people.

Paul taught, "For when they shall say peace and safety; then sudden destruction shall come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape," 1st Thessalonians 5:3. We can't be caught up in the good times of the world; even, the peaceful times that are soon to come.

Number Three: Stay committed. Always be listening to Christ through your local New Testament Church. In the midst of sinful iniquity, remember your calling. Further, don't forget what Love the Lord gave you when you were saved. Don't allow this love to "wax cold" (Mt. 24:12). Stay committed because it is our positon to know the words of Christ in these last days. "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved" (Mt. 24:13).

Number Four: Daniel's prophecy. Jesus said, "When ye see the Abomination of Desolation; spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place..., Matthew 24:15. Comparing these words to those of Paul in 2nd Thessalonians, we determine that the Antichrist breaks the peace plan for the world, and the Mystery of iniquity comes to the forefront. "...that wicked be revealed...even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all signs and lying wonders...," (2nd Thess. 2:7-9). At this time, God shall send "...a strong delusion in them that they should believe a lie:" (V 11). Most don't expect this kind of action on God's part; but, it's what the Bible says.

Under number four, we expect to see the residents of Judea flee into the mountains (Mt. 24:16). However, even though times will be like no other, we cannot afford to listen to offers of safety. Those who say that Jesus is in the desert or secret places, "...believe it not," Jesus taught (Mt. 24:23).

Number Five: Look up! "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened...And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven:" (Mt. 24:29a, 30a). And, we come again to the word, "WATCH." After Jesus presents a parable of the fig tree (Israel, I think), He says that it all shall take place within one generation. I think it means that those who were born at the time of the beginning of End-Times, shall continue to live unto the end of the End-Times; that is, there will be some of that time period who shall continue to live, from beginning to end.

It does seem that we are in the last days; world headlines give credence to this thinking. It is necessary to study the End Times. We must think about being a solid rock in the service of Jesus, the Christ. We are hopeful that some of these points will direct you hearts to not be deceived; to stay true to Jesus, alone, and not follow the world and it's false prophets.

Study, Study and Study some more. And, Pray! In the baseball analogy, let us take a strong look at the world as it swings and hits the ball our way. Are we ready? Do we know what to do, once we get it? Are we set in the way of the gospel and not afraid of standing for "the faith which was once (and for all time) delivered to the saints" (Jude 3).

Be on your tip-toes, Brethren; for, the time is at hand. It's coming!!! Study, Study and Study some more. And, Pray "To be ready."

Chapter Five

   The purpose of the GoodNewsLetter is to explain Scripture. John Five is great for learning about salvation. In John, as well as the entire Bible, it is extremely clear on what it takes to trust God. John shows that Jesus, alone, is the way to be saved. And, that means initial salvation; as well as, service.

    Jesus is our Savior and Lord. That's so clear that, before long, we understand that Biblical LESSONS HONOR JESUS and His doing; not us. Eternal life comes only from Him. We learn that His work elevates Him within our hearts. Indeed, His love fills our hearts when we trust in the Person of Jesus, who died for our sins.

   For further words on salvation, let's hear what Jesus said, "Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of me," John 5:39. The words are from the Kings James Version. Here's the New American Version: "You search the Scripture, because you think that in them you have eternal life: and it is these that bear witness of Me," John 5:39. Notice: Scriptures testify of Jesus. We are saved in His work. When we study, we understand this glorious truth.

    Both versions state that the Bible is God's Word. However, both versions show that ETERNAL life comes only through Jesus, the Christ. The Jews missed Scriptural meaning and denied that Jesus was the Christ. They did believe in the Law, but their view was from their leaders who taught them; one of doing. The Pharisees, et al, poured over the Law, daily. They studied the writing of Moses wearing the wrong glasses, however. What they saw was their work and, their doing. They just couldn't see trusting in the Messiah apart from the Law. So, the Jewish nation worked and, the Jewish nation denied.

    We must read God's Word. Studying is a good thing! The Word is inspired by God, Paul teaches us (2ndTim. 3:15). But, too many miss the import of Scripture. Just as the Jews did, we see far too many who trust in their knowledge of the Bible and their actions, rather that the Person that the Bible honors, Jesus, the Christ.

    People today, as the Jews, believe that their church, their baptism and their doing, become so important that, if they stopped doing or left the church, salvation would be lost. That's not what the Bible teaches, at all.

    The Word testifies! We have to remember that! The Bible is a testimony of Jesus. We are told who Jesus is and, what He did. Further, Scripture teaches that Jesus was the only man who did God's will. The testimony was that He was without sin and, because of His sinlessness, the Law was repaired when He paid the price of sin on Calvary. That's an eternal testimony. Do you believe it, alone?

   Like the Jews, sadly, too many miss the means the a new life by trusting in their doing; not, in Jesus who had no sin. But, to those who trust in Him, salvation is the gift. And, it's free for every sinner that repents. This, of course, means that every man born is a sinner. All men come up short of what God expects (See Romans 3:10, 23).

    In John, the Baptist's witness to the truth, we read that Jesus was the Son of God (5:33). He was perfect and, He was without sin. If we listen carefully to the words in the Book of John, we will see a true witness of Jesus. "The very works that I do, bear witness of Me," Jn. 5:36. The works of Jesus proved that His Father sent Him.

    Need further proof? This time, hear the witness of His Father. "And, the Father,"... He has borne witness of Me," John 5:37. At that time, Jesus annnounced the eternal verdict upon the Jews. The verdict condemned them. And, that verdict falls on all mankind if they fail to trust in Jesus, alone. "And you do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent," John 5:38.

   Therefore, if we believe in Jesus as our Savior, we will study to learn of Jesus so we may obey what He taught. This is the way Biblical faith operates. Never, never do we trust in our doing of what He taught. Any re-doing will never bring salvation. Mankind, we must remember, misses the mark and sins each time. Man's effort is useless.

    As we look to the Word as a witness, we see that it isn't what we do, it's our trust in Jesus, the Person. It isn't what we do, it's trusting what He did. Only Jesus completed the deal and finished the work demanded by God. Thus, on the cross, the blessed testimony of Scripture records Jesus saying, "It is finished" (Jn 19:30).

   There are millions that have a KIND-OF-TRUST in Jesus. They think that life comes by doing a tenet or, fulfilling some Law; such as, "honor thy parents" (5th commandment). But, what Jesus demands is LOVE. "But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves" (Jn 5:42). Everyone must learn that love comes by trusting in Jesus and, loves continues by trusting in Jesus.

   Let's get the Love of God and, keep the Love of God, by grace through faith (Eph 2:8-9). After all, John 3:16 testifies that, "God so loved the world that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." God gave and men receive. Now, that's grace.

   Back in chaper five, verse 47, Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Then, Jesus shows that 'believing in Him' is the same as 'eating of Him.' "I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he shall llive forever; and the bread also which I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh" (5:51).

   John's words clearly shows that Jesus, alone, gives us salvation; both, from hades and from this dead life, as well. Salvation is finished but, as we repeat the title verse, we have to study. "You search the Scriptures...and it is these that bear witness of Me," John 5:39.

GOD'S APPROVAL COMES BY STUDY

"Study to show thyself approved unto God ... rightly dividing the Word of truth," 2Timothy 2:15.

God is the "author of salvation" and has penned it down for us in the Bible. Psalms 25:8 teaches us that "Good and upright is the LORD; Therefore He instructs sinners in the way."

Understanding about eternity is glorious. Truth from God, teaches us about the total salvation; a salvation that takes us beyond being saved from comdemnation, alone. God's plan has many aspects of salvation within it, including a life of service on a daily basis. Certainly, not all the saved are baptized correctly. And, we all know of some who have stopped serving, altogether. Then, the Bible affirms that not all the saved serve within a New Testament Church. Study the church out, yourself.

When it comes to the Almighty, we never stop learning. Each day brings us to seek approval from God in every move we make. That's a good thing. This kind of constant-checking with God is necessary, too. This is the meaining that the title verse states, above. And here, all scholars agree that Scripture shows a bigger than a one-time-salvation. Scholars know that God has a complete salvation in mind within the pages of the Bible.

Jamieson, Fausset & Brown's "Commentary of the Scriptures" points out the fact that: "reigning is something more that bare salvation" (A Commentary, 1802-1880, pg 506). Commentator Fausset cites Romans 5:17; Rev. 1:6; 3:21; 5:5; and, 22:4,5.

The Scripture references in the previous paragraph inform of God's salvation that includes different positions and higher blessings, both now, and when the resurrection arrives. The referenced Scripture teach of kingdom priests and overcomers; as well as, the nation of Israel (Rev. 5:5). Revelation also states that some will "reign forever and ever" (Rev. 22:5). But, according to Matthew 7:21, many shall "not inherit the kingdom of God."

It is clear that one need not be a Missionary Baptist to discern that lower and higher glories exists in the resurrection. As the Bible is studied; especially, by scholars, Hebrew and Greek language truths demand a difference that is clear. God blesses those who adhere to what He has said in the Word, but He also takes away from some who were in position to serve when they become unprofitable (See Mt. 25:26, 30). It's a fearful thing to "fall into the hands of a living God (Heb 10:31). Why, because "the Lord shall judge His people" (Heb 10:30).

I've been telling Trinity Church that FIVE TRUTHS - if understood - will cause all of us to serve fully and be blessed, eternally. They are: 1) Abraham; 2) Israel; 3) Jesus; 4) The Church; and, 5) the millenium.

Understanding these points allow us to walk by faith; just as those of Hebrews 11. While, this chapter begins with Abel, adding Enoch and Noah, it is Abraham that actually walked away and toward God by faith. Abraham reveales God's plan; an inheritance that provides a sweet fellowship.

Abraham lived in faith. He went where God sent him. In the framework of Scripture, we see that we can only serve God by being where He tells us to go and what He tells us to do. Ephesians 3:21 instructs, "Unto Him be glory in the church." The church is local and it's independent of all other organizitions.

The Bible knows nothing of a universal church. Clearly, the church was established by Jesus and has been serving since. Scripture reveals a church with a history back to Jerusalem. It was the church that baptized us and taught us about New Covenant commandments. The pastors, deacons and members have observed what was taught by the church down through time.

Abraham is a major character that has Israel blessed because of him. Israel was to carry the faith and plan of God onward. While, not always faithful, God used the nation to bring Jesus into the world. God's plan is bigger than our belief or unbelief.

Then, we were saved. It was a "heaven came down and glory filled our soul" kind of experience. Jesus finished it all. Further, Jesus built His church upon Himself and the teachings from the Father; so, it has to remain. There is no question about that. And, when we study the church out and find this truth, we become the ones to maintain it. That's the plan. That's our calling.

On this point, Ist Corinthians 3 teaches that failure of study will cost us, eternally. We must "take heed" (V10) how we build. Proper building means we use correct material which show faith. Such service brings "...a reward" (V14).

However, using incorrect materials made of weak substances; such as wood, hay and stubble, brings a great "loss" V15). And, as Ist Corinthians further points out, even a saved person will "suffers loss, " (but)... he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire." Amen and hallelujah!!! It is a finished work that we enter into when we trust Jesus.

Since Jesus, the church age continues. And, what a blessing is is to be living now! So many Biblical and doctrinal works are on our shelf. Helps and scholarly works are close by and available, too. But, we still must walk by faith; just as Ephesians 3:21 explains. We have to believe what the Word says. We have to Study the Word in order to show our faith. We walk by faith; His faith.

The church age shall continue until the Second Coming of Jesus, the Christ. Then, the millenium begins. For a thousand years, Jesus shall rule the kingdom of His Father on this earth. At the end of the millenium, we see Jesus step off the throne and turn all things over to the Father. 1st Corinthians 15 informs us that Jesus will step off the throne. Wow! Here, I get goose bumps because Jesus takes up His positon with His people.

After finishing God's plan by coming, dying, rasing and ruling, Jesus "...Himself become subject unto Him (God, the Father) that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all" (V28). He loved us that much. He left His glory forever. Now, the question is: 'Can't we love Him enough to study and obey within His New Testament Church?' I trust that you shall be a blessing to all in attendance in every service.

TIME and EVENTS

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted..." Ecclesiastes 3:1,2.

Everyone has places to go, people to see and things to do. And, it's all measured in time. Whether, by days, months, weeks or years, the event makes the time memorable; sometimes sad and, sometimes glad. We love the time of birth but hate the time of death.

Within our time of doing things, we have seasonal events; such as, time-lines or, frameworks that allow us to do things. There is 'a time to plant, and a time to pluck...' and, as Jesus thought, our time ought to be understood as Spiritual.

Although, different from natural man, Jesus was subject to time and events while on earth, nevertheless. He never lost the purpose of His mission. "I must work the works of Him who sent Me, as long as it is day, night is coming when no man can work," John 9:4.

While, Jesus lowered Himself to our state by becoming man, His teaching, relative to time, can't be missed; especially, if we are to be pleasing to Him. Time is our most precious commodity. Failing to redeem the time for Christ's purpose, is robbery in the first degree. It's stealing the moment for eternity and replaces it with a moment of pleasure, idleness and sin.

During our time on earth, we must realize that every word spoken by Jesus was for our learning. Every truth must be exercised in the life of time, if we are to be His disciple. It's a lesson of joy, really; one that will lead believers to obtain salvation and be ready for the day of His Second Coming.

Paul knew what it meant to be ready. It was a constant message of his. "...for you are all sons of light and sons of day," Ist Thessalonians 5:5. Clearly, within his teaching, Paul expected believers to keep every event accomplished in line with "light" and "day". The two are to match; that is, our time has to have the right events within it. Paul taught that if the right things are done during our time here on earth, we'll be ready. "But, since we are of the day, let us be SOBER, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation," verse 8. It's a must!

How long do we have? Well, Noah was given more time than what we have, of course. But, he had to build a life-saving Ark, requiring a lot of time. The Bible states that our life may be "threescore and ten" or, if strong, "fourscore" (Ps. 90:10). The Lord has allowed me to reach seventy years and, it is with excitement that I look to coming years that are ahead. While, I don't expect my life to be as eventful - in terms of going - as, in the past - I expect to keep on keeping on in the word of Jesus and His church as long as I live.

Here's a good way to look at the life that is before you. Think of your present life in Christ as "finished." Add to the fact that there is nothing new under the sun, you'll quickly learn that, in Christ, "all things work to good for those who are the called of God," Romans 8:28.

Here's an order of events that will be good for all of us to learn:

1) The Greatest Event for Man: "The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand; REPENT and BELIEVE in the GOSPEL," Mark 1:15.

2) The Grace Event: "...behold, now is the acceptable time, behold, now is the day of salvation," 2nd Corinthians 6:3b.

3) The Holy Spirit Event: "And it shall come to past in the LAST days...I will pour our My Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons

and your daughters shall prophesy..." Acts 2:17-18.

4) The Second Coming Event: "But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfuits of them that slept...Behold, I show you a

mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the

last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be

changed," 1st Corinthians 16:20, 51, 52.

TEMPLE REBUILT

"Let no one in any way deceive you, for it (return of Jesus) will not come unless apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction," 2 Thessalonians 2:3.

The hope of Christianity is the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ. However, we see that two things must occur before our hope is realized. Before Jesus comes again, two events have to happen: 1) First, an apostasy (falling away) and 2), the man of lawlessness revealed (man of sin).

With those two points understood, Paul gives us some information about the man of sin. He "...takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God," 2Thess. 2:4. Since, the man of sin is seated in the Temple of God, we have proof that a temple must be built and serviceable; all before the Second Coming. Otherwise, there is no meaning to this verse of Scripture. Therefore, before Jesus returns, there will be a temple built. However, this issue of the GoodNewsLetter is to show that a temple will be rebuilt; not to prove the time of the Second Coming.

In the past, the Temple subject has been fascinating to me. It's interest, over the years, has not waned, either. Israel is the most interesting nation that has ever existed. She is to always exist, as well. To get an idea of what I mean, read A STATEMENT BY THE TEMPLE INSTITUTE IN JERUSALEM, which I took from the web: "Jerusalem is the light of the world...and who is the light of Jerusalem? The Holy One, Blessed be He." (Bereshit Rabbah 59.8) (Rebuilding the Temple, by L. Dolphin).
The article goes on to say: Jerusalem. No other city is known by so many names to so many people: Eternal City, City of Peace, City of Gold - and no other city is referred to as the "City of God"... a place of unique sanctity. Jerusalem is the focus of the spiritual energies of a large segment of mankind, and at its heart lies its greatest secret - the enigma of the Holy Temple.

   And, from this article, 'Rebuilding the Temple,' we read of varying ideas that come from the Israeli faithful. The writing states: Not a United Front by Any Means---"Two Jews Equals Three Opinions."
   The Editor, L. Dolphin, tells how Israel has approached rebuilding the temple. In l982, after years of disagreement about methods of approach, three groups of devout Jews, The Jerusalem Temple Foundation, To the Mountain of the Lord, and The Faithful of the Temple Mount combined their forces to plan for and build the Third Temple. More recently The Temple Institute has begun to build the sacred vessels to be used in the Third Temple. One yeshiva (Yeshivot Ateret Cohanim) is presently located in the Old City in the historic Torat Haim Yeshiva building. Prior to the Arab riots of 1936 this area of the Old City was a thriving Jewish community. The yeshiva's location places it not far from the spot the Holy of Holies (Kodesh Hakodoshim) once stood on the Temple Mount.
   Historical and Biblical records show that two previous temples existed, beforehand. The first Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586. The second temple destroyed by the Romans in A. D. 70. And, concerning this temple of 2Thessalonians, we are confident that it will be built. After all, there are so many Israeli's involved in this project.

Also, there is a third temple that shall be built for the millenium (The Lord's 1000 year kingdom reign on earth). For a lengthy description of this temple and how God restores Israel, see Ezek. 34:11-31. The prophet Ezekiel tells of why God blesses the land; as well as, the reason that Israel is renewed. "...it is not for your sake, O house of Israel that I am about to act, but for My holy name," (36:22).

What about the third temple? Will the third temple of Thessalonians be the same as the millenium one? Will Israel, with God's approval, merely redo the third temple; which, becomes the one used in the 1000 year reign? Many questions but, we trust in the Lord.

A TEMPLE SYNOPSIS

Let's see if we can bring it together in a short paragraph. In order to build the Temple, Israel will have to come to some terms of peace. Once accepted, the building site where the Dome of the Rock exists, will be turned over for the rebuilding of the Temple. Scholars say that the new building will not have "the court of the Gentiles" and the Temple will fit next to Arab structure. As you view the picture from the web site, 'Rebuilding the Jewish Temple,' don't miss the Dome to the left of the Temple.

It's only an artist's drawing but the idea really catches my interest.

PROPHECY For ISRAEL*

    "Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she gave birth to a boy. Who has

     heard of such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a land be born in one day? Can a nation be

           brought forth all at once? As soon as Zion travailed, she also brought forth her sons," Isaiah 66:7-8.

Israel is certainly in the news today. Yet, if we go back to 690 years before Christ, we read of Her recovery and the fact that the nation has, and will always be, in existence. God's plan for the nation was made to Abraham and, it's right on schedule. This prophecy for Israel should cause all of us to stop and think about God's plan for His people. Who are they? Where is their final abode? It's all right there in God's word. Isaiah shows us that God's word is sure; His plan is right on time and, Israel shall be saved.

God's plan in Isaiah 66 unfolds this way: 1) A seven year peace treaty is signed with the Beast of Revelation 13:1; 2) the beast breaks the treaty in the midst (Dan 9:27); 3) Israel flees to a place prepared by God and is fed for 3 1/2 years; and then, 4) the forces of the beast go after all who worship the true God. Please go over these points until your heart is settled on this prophecy; for, Israel is God's clock. When we read it correctly, we know where we are in His time-frame.

Concerning the prophecy of Isaiah, we see that the 'hands of time,' are quickly moving. But, another important fact is that Isaiah's words demand that Israel has to continue until the Second Coming of Christ. To continue means that Israel has never ceased to exist. Never shall, either.

Yes, the nation failed to realize Jesus as Savior at His first advent. Further, the nation has been dispersed for nearly 2000 years. However, in 1939, the United Nations recognized Israel as a nation. Indeed! God is still working with Israel; they are His people. The plan always runs right through the nation, keeping Israel as God's clock and keeping us right on time. We must remember that prophetic time is relative to God's nation, Israel.

During the time of Isaiah's prophecy, Israel is in such horrible pain and misery that She cries out to God. He answers by sending Jesus to rescue the nation. It is then that Israel accepts Jesus as Her Savior. "Blessed" becomes the word of Her heart, as She calls out for God, help and salvation. Just like a mother who sees her baby for the first time, Israel's heart opens up to God's provision, this time.

Fortunately, for the nation, God has been faithful to His promises; for, in history, Israel always sinned against God. But; while God punishes, He is always merciful and loving, ready to come and save His people in time of trouble. Even today, you may call on His Holy Name.

ISAIAH'S WORDS AND THE LAST DAYS EXPLAINED BY SCRIPTURE: Watching current events and reading God's Word, we understand that Isaiah's prophecy for Israel is about to happen. And, the time is not pretty for Israel. But, first, the treaty.

In Daniel 9:27, we read, "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease ...". In the midst means that, after 3 1/2 years of signing the seven year peace treaty with the beast of Revelation 13:1, in the middle of the week, the treaty is broken. The beast has 7 heads (of affiliation) and 10 horns (nations). Also, the beast receives power from the Dragon (Satan), and wants to destroy the nation of Israel (Rev. 12:3-6).

When peace is broken, Israel runs to the wilderness, according to Revelation 12:6. There, a place has been prepared of God "...that they should feed her (Israel) there a thousand two hundred and threescore days (Rev 12:6). That's 3 1/2 years; the same as 42 months (Rev 11:2) and, "times, times and a half time" that Revelation 12:14 records.

When Israel flees, things gets extremely close to the end of the earth, as we know it. We read of the dragon being cast out of heaven and going after Israel in Revelation 12:13. Then, the next verse says the dragon "persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child." But, God takes control and cares for His people, providing Israel with wings to "fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent" (Rev. 12:14).

Thus, we see that Isaiah's words come directly after the peace treaty is broken. That's 3 1/2 years after the seven year treaty is signed. But, with God supervising the time period, the nation of Israel finds salvation. "As soon as Zion travailed She brought forth her sons" (Isa. 66:8). The nation shall be saved. Hallelujah!!!

We get an idea of Israel's coming salvation earlier in Matthew 21:9. Multitudes cry "Hosanna to the Son of David" while Jesus entered Jerusalem. But, the leaders dispised the Son of God. However, in the end, Jesus comes to save the nation. This time, it's forever; as Israel finally understands the meaning of "Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord". The nation understands that Her Son was born.

Isaiah is telling us that Israel's salvation is both physical and, it's spiritual. It's the time of Her travail and pain. And, the nation delivers Her people. For Israel, God's plan operates as it was meant from the beginning - RIGHT ON TIME!

2000 years ago, Israel brought forth a Son. His name was Jesus. Ignorant of the Lord, Israel has undergone much sorrow. But, now in Isaiah 66, Israel cries out to Her God. She fulfills the words spoken by Jesus in Matthew 23:39, "...ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord." And, how we thank God for

The Prayers of David

God "...raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will,'" Acts 13:22.

The quote comes from Ist Samuel 13:14. Saul had just annointed himself, causing the Prophet Samuel to declare: "You have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God ... your kingdom shall not endure" (I Sam. 13:13, 14a).

Although, everyone knows of David's sin with Bathsheba, David's heart was always fixed upon the will of the God. David loved the promise made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The best information we can obtain from David's prayer in the Psalms is that man must be aware of God at all times. David, certainly was, acknowledging His dependency from Psalm 1 to the 72nd Psalm; here, the NASB says, "The prayers of Daivd the son of Jesse are ended" (Ps 72:20).

Beginning with the first Psalm, we see what moved David's heart. Although we read of David's apparent doubts and fears, he knew where his bread was buttered; so to speak. David's heart was fixed upon God at all times. His delight was in the law of the Lord. David meditated in God's law "day and night" (Psalm 1:2).

Doctrine explains God's plan. Doctrine is everywhere in the Psalms. The THREE DESTINY APPROACH is in the very 1st Psalm; where David says, "Therefore the wicked will not stand in judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous" (V5). Notice the wicked and, also notice the sinners. Both of these are separated from God; which, brings out the meaning of man's final destiny and spells out the the Three Destiny Approach. In man's final abode, we read of three eternal palces existing for all of us - everyone born of Adam.

Breaking down the THREE DESTINY APPROACH, we see that the FIRST ABODE is for the lost. They rejected God's salvation and were never saved. They shall be in Hell, eternally separated from God (See Lk. 16). Because the wicked rejected God's salvation, they miss life altogether.

"Sinners" are also separated from God. But, they are saved, we think. However, they are not allowed to be in the assembly of the righteous. These miss our because they become impatient and fail to follow on in God's love. And remember, Saul was rejected for the same sin. One Biblical truth that is needed for harmony of the Word of God is that many of the saved shall be among the nations. They shall not inherit the kingdom (See Mt 7:21; Gal. 5:21). Once this is known, a lot of things fall into place. The Bible comes alive!

David understood that God has a plan. In the beginning, the earth was given to Adam. But, after the Fall, God renewed the plan in the promise He gave to Abraham. This really makes sense when we hear Jesus say, "The meek shall inherit the earth" (Matt. 5:5). The plan was to be worked out within Israel, but, when Jesus came to save them, Jewish nation rejected their Savior.

When Israel denied the truth, they pushed God far away from them. However, at the establishment of the New Testament, God again called men to His Holiness. The church replaced the nation of Israel as God's witnesses. Since then, the church has preached the Kingdom that the Jews rejected by scoffing their Messiah.

Since the church was established, a great number has been saved because of Jesus. But, far too many miss out on the plan. They are just like Saul and Israel. They reject God's way with many adding to God's plan or replacing it with their own choice. Even though Jesus said, "The gates of hell shall not prevail against her" (the church, Mt. 28:20), mankind misses it; just look at all the churches that man has established since Jerusalem.

In a nut shell, the kingdom truth teaches that God calls all men to come to Him and be saved; to follow His teaching and honor His Holy Name. Man cannot make God's plan better because the Lord sent His Son just as He promised to Abraham and Abraham's Seed, Jesus (Jn. 3:16; Gal. 3:16). In salvation; whether, it means saved from hell or, in service, man is relative to God through Jesus, alone.

Thus, to trust Jesus is to be saved from condemnation; but, to follow Him, allows one to be His disciple. At the Second Coming, the difference will be clearly seen. Jesus will resurrect all men who have been saved and place each one according to the relationship with God while on earth. Some shall inherit the promise with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But, the majority will live among the nations for, at least, a thousand years (Rev 20:5).

Without God's Son, man is Hell bound. And, although Jesus came to save and to reconcile man back to God, man goes on his own way. He rejects God by refusing Jesus. While, the saved are raised at the judgment Seat of Christ, the unsaved shall miss this resurrection. We read of them standing before God at the other judgment; the GREAT WHITE THRONE. They are without a Savior.

Having no Savior means that these are dead, spiritually speaking. Their names are not found in the book of life; even, though God searches for it with His eternal eye. Consequently, "And if anyone's name is not found written in the book of life , he was thrown into the LAKE OF FIRE (See Rev. 20:11-15).

When Israel denied God's truth by rejecting Jesus, the New Testament began. Christ established His church to preach the Kingdom that the Jews missed. While, a great number are and have been saved because of Jesus, far too many miss out on the plan. They are just like Saul and Israel, rejecting God's way; while, replacing it with their own choice. Clearly, most are not like David, a man after God's own heart.

SALVATION IN EXODUS

"For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spritual drink from a spiritual rock which followed them; and that rock was CHRIST," Ist Corinthians 10:1-4.

Paul spells out the meaning of salvation in his letter to the Corintians makes it very clear. Stating that Israel worked out the type of salvation by being baptized into the leadership of Moses, Paul gives us ore details. Israel went through the sea, ate and drank spiritual food and, finally, received their spiritual water from the Rock, Paul says. And, we have to see the TYPES in order not to miss what the Rock represented; which is, Christ.

Representation is used a lot in Paul's letters . I don't know about you but, I love to study TYPES, SHADOWS and REPRESENTATIONS from the Word of God. In Exodus, we see salvation presented as a whole; as a finished salvation. Although, only in TYPE, we can't miss what the blood began; what it continued and, how the blood finished Israel's walk to the promised land.

Once the Exodus account becomes clear, we'll see our salvation as being no different - It is complete, finshished and matches beautifully the TYPES and SHADOWS that represented what Christ worked out on our behalf.

But, now we have the true blood and do not have to offer animal sacrifices, anymore. Jesus said, "I have glorified thee on earth: I have finished the work which Thou gave me to do," John 17:4. Thank the Lord for the types. Israel's trek from Egypt to the Promised Land, reveals God's salvation from start to finish. Once the blood of the lamb was applied, Israel was considered separated from Egypt.

Next, God's plan for the nation was to follow Moses. Likewise, we are to follow our Leader, Jesus, the Christ; not in type but in actuality and truth. It's what Jesus said in John 4:24. "God is spirit and those who worhship Him must worship the Father in SPIRIT."

To see salvation from the Exodus picture, all we have to do is take the TYPE or, the template, and place the work of christ within it. The truth is upheld and our doctrine will be complete. It's the Scriptural way of harmonizing the completed work of Christ against the Exodus scene.

Further, we are told by the book of Hebrews that the ministry of Christ is of the TRUE TABERNACLE. He is the HIGH PRIEST (8:2) that supercedes the Old Covenant and it's priests; which, only serve as a "copy and shadow of the heavenly things" (8:5). Thus, the New Covenant that Jesus obtained is "... a more execellent ministry ... He is also the Mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises (8:6). I find it joyous comparing the Old against the New Covenant.

However, faith, in both covenants is considered the same. Hebrews says, "...Beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation" (6:9). And, Paul wrote the same thing in Ist Corinthians 10:5. "Nevertheless, with most of them (Israel) God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness."

Why? Because, as Paul goes on, "Now these things happened as examples for us, that we should not crave evil things, as they also craved" (10:6). In other words, God takes us to the desert place to lead us onward to His promises. Although, it is no longer in the physical, we still have to leave the world and trust Him in the walk He calls us to begin. We follow Jesus in our living room or, in the same position, we can go back to Egypt. It comes by faith.

Jesus said the exact same thing. Certainly, He take us out of the world? But, do we appreciate our calling? Readomg the Bible presents glorious truth to our hearts and, it will help, a lot! In Chapter 20 of Luke, we are told of the beauty of the resurrection. Luke records Jesus saying, that we shall be "...Like angels, and sons of God, being sons of the resurrection"

(v36).

In verse 37, the Lord gives us more about the hope of the resurrection saying, "But that the dead are raised, even as Moses showed, in the passage about the burning bush, where he (Moses) calls the Lord 'The God of Abraham, Isaac, and the God of Jacob."

Coming to the Lord is coming to life; not physical but, spiritual and eternal. Because of Types and shadows, we can't miss the truth. And, we certainly have a number to read that we can't miss the understanding.

Paul, apparently assumed the church at Corinth to be wise (10:15). He covers the seriousness of their position as church members, one more time. He calls them to understand what it means to be one body by asking, "Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing the body of Christ? (An obvious, "YES! on both accounts). Paul, continues, "Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread.

Therefore, our TYPES and SHADOWS that are referred to by Paul demands that we be holy and separated unto the Lord, alone. Again, Paul goes back to to types and shadows. "Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the alter?" (10:18).

This rhetorical question is to explained our calling. We must be separated from the world. "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils;" (likewise, the entire supper), Ist Corinthians 10:19-20. Paul teaches us to forsake the world, relying only upon God.

In our walk through the wilderness (the world), we are seeking to "inherit the kingdom" (Mt 7:21). But, we must see things as Scripture records. While, "All things are lawful" to Paul (10:23a), "...all things are not expedient" (10:23b). All things are not profitable to service and, often, things will hinder one's walk.

After partaking of the Rock; that is, drinking and eating from Christ, walking spiritually means that our only fellowship is with the brethren who love Jesus as we do. Those within the church that Christ established have a closeness worth keeping, too. Jesus said, "the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church," Matthew 28:20, and, when we study history, we see that Brethren have stood for this beloved truth of the local, independent church

And, we must, as well. Our position is this: Once the blood is applied, a person is saved, eternally. However, the walk does not stop at the cross; it has to be carried. Throughout the Exodus passage, we see Salvation unfold because Israel continued to walk toward God's calling. Exodus presents a beautiful teaching; which, pictures what Christ did on man's behalf. We must learn it well.

There is one interesting point that Paul makes, however. Just before he teaches on the Lord's Supper, Paul states, "Be imitators of me, just as I am of Christ" (I Cor. 11:1) Since, there is a difference between the type and the real, we must get out the Old Covenant and scan the territory. It is then that we'll see Jesus is all the types. Let's be imitators of Christ.

REDEEMING THE TIME

"Continue in prayer...that God would open a door to speak the mystery of Christ...walk in wisdom toward them that are without, REDEEMING THE TIME," Colossians 4:2,3, 5.

Time is NOT an illusion. God's people have to learn to redeem every moment we have. Time marks off seconds, minutes, days, years, etc. Most importantly, time marks off the plan of God that is set within His Holy Word, the Bible.

Of course, God does not need time; He is ETERNAL! But, from the very "beginning" the Lord works within His plan of Genesis. Further, there is an end, letting us know that time won't go on forever.

Using His favorite time period of days, God shows the time limit that is placed on the first creation. It's a SEVEN DAY time-frame. Thus, when the Lord spoke the creation into existence, days were used. God called "the light day" (Ge. 1:5) and, after one day was completed, He created the "expanse" (Ge. 1:8).

For six days God logs His work. Then, on the Seventh Day, He rests. Again, God needs no rest. I think He spent the time enjoying what He had made. Genesis is to inform man about God's framework of time. But, take notice what the Lord says in the book of Peter. "One day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day," 2 Pet 3:8. Through the Apostle Peter, God wants us to "Get It." So, at the beginning of the verse, God adds, "But do not let this one fact escape your notice...

Then, Peter shows how one day equals a 1000 years. And, so we won't miss the notice ("escape the fact") Peter turns the verse around saying, "and a thousand years as one day" (3:8b). Did you "Get It?"

If you did, we can calculate man's time on earth to be 7000 years or, 7 days. Don't be confused, remember that Peter said, "One day equals a thousand years" (2Pe. 3:8). God's 7-day creation, when applied to the thousand years, shows us that 1 day = 1000 years. That's the total plan for man to be in the old creation; 7 days or, 7000 years.

Yet, even the 7000 years are harmonious to God's 24 hours and 7 days of creation. There is a day of rest coming when Jesus returns. It is just like God rested His 7th day.

But, we need to heed the word, today. Time as we know it, is about to end. Soon, the redeemed will enter the rest of God or, the millenium - 1000 year reign of Christ. Therefore, when we read of the Biblical verses that record the END-TIMES, LAST DAYS, LATER DAYS AND "THE END OF THE AGE," we understand that the days will end and, soon. While, prophets give dates - right or wrong - Jesus will return to earth, soon.

The Bible is before us, giving man an opportunity to get ready. So, the next time you hear a preachers "yell" about the day of Jesus, realize that He is concerned for your life. The preacher has good reason, too. He wants everyone to redeem the time at hand.

From this preacher's point of view, it is not to be a warning, only. I get excited about His return. Things are going to change. Let me ask the reader, "Won't it be wonderful when peace covers the earth?" Amen! And, the wars will end. Amen! All areas will be safe. Amen! No more killings. No more gang activity. Amen!

Before the change comes, we know that Jesus must come and reign on earth. That's the kingdom message. That's what we pray for; "Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" Matthew 6:10.

Therefore, what time man has left - the here and now - must be REDEEMED. Man has to realize that God's plan is sure. That all He said will come to pass. Do we have to understand His word before we obey Him? Amen! Understanding begins with the Word, Jesus Christ and then, we learn that He has a job for us. It's redeeming the time that we have left. LIFTING UP BELIEVERS

"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Myself," John 12:32.

Scripture infoms us that, until Jesus was lifted up, all Spiritual Laws remained unfulfilled. When we think this idea through, it's conclusion is: "Before anyone can be lifted up, including our Lord Jesus, all payment for sin had to be made. And, thank the Lord, it was! On Calvary, Jesus paid it all.

Sin separates, keeping man from God. That's clear. Man cannot serve spiritually until sin is paid and removed. The Bible records that the innocent has to make the payment on behalf of the guilty. And, the Book records much about sacrificial offerings. The first is found in Genesis 3; where an animal was offered to cover Adam and Eve's nakedness. Sacrifices continued, until Jesus paid the final one, dying on the cross.

Before Jesus died, we read of many animals that gave their innocent life in order that Israel could serve the Lord. And, there are all those special days - Passover Day, Day of Atonement and other special Holy Days - where required offerings had to be made; even, daily. Without the proper offering, no service was allowed. Blood was necessary before the Lord could be approached.

What we must see in these days of offerings (besides the fact that man was yet in sin) is the fulfillment of them - the day that a sacrifice would no longer be needed. It was a glorious day when the end came and we ought to rejoice in this fact. There, on the cross, when Jesus died, mankind is no longer separated. The death of Jesus is for all men who long to be free from sin (Adam's and, the one that you committed).

Clearly, sin payment had to be made. Even before Jesus could be lifted up, the payment for sin had to be made. Scripture tells us that there is no lifting up until sin is removed. Further, the Books says that man broke the Law of God and man must make the payment, himself.

But again, man had to be without sin, innocent of any guilty act. Of course, that's what the animals pictured, in TYPE. And, while animals served for a time, their sacrifices could not remove sin. Remember, man had to pay, himself. Is wasn't animals that sinned. They were innocent. It was man who broke the Law.

Fortunately, God had it all planned out for us, even from the beginning of time. Jesus would leave His position as the only Son of God and lower Himself into our lives. As a man, the final payment for sin would be made. When I read and dwell upon this act of love, I realize that Jesus is the only perfect man; one without sin. Of course, the Bible attests to His life; explaining how it came about, telling us about the payment for man's sin. It is recorded that Jesus was born of a virgin and "Took upon flesh." (Flesh is an interesting subject. Get out the concordance and check out what it meant to be born a Jew. Notice, how Jesus erased the flesh, too! It's glorious.)

Imagine, all the writings from the Old Covenant that covered the necessary work that the Messiah would accomplish. How, in the world, did Israel miss this? Afterall, the Jewish hope was in the coming of their Messiah.

Jewish fathers wrote about Jesus being their hope many times. Well, they TYPED it many times. The fathers knew well of their great leader, Moses. They missed the fulfillment when Jesus appeared, however. The father's very important High Priest office that Aaron held was fulfilled by Jesus; but, the Jews missed that fulfillment, too.

But, the greatest TYPE that the Jews missed was the TYPE of the LAMB that was offered to pay for their sins. The Jews missed Jesus, who became the Lamb of God that was offered to wash away their sins. John, the Baptist didn't, however. He gladly said, "Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world," John 1:29.

In the book of Hebrews, we are given many of the TYPES that Jesus fulfilled; finally, becoming man, in order to save man. Hebrews points out that Jesus "...had to be made like unto His brethren in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful High Priest...to make propitiation for the sins of the people...He was Faithful to Him that appointed Him, as Moses was...since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens...let us therefore draw near with confidence' (Hebrews 2:17a, 17b; 3:2; 4:14, 16).

Hebrews goes on to explain that after Jesus was made like unto us and fulfilling the types of Aaron & Moses, He is now passed through the heavens. He was LIFTED UP by His Father.

TYPES become very pointed. To appreciate the work of Jesus, we have to learn all we can about the meaning of TYPES. But, as Jesus told Nicodemus, TYPES were not received by the Jewish majority; especially, the leaders. That problem remains today; not only with the Jews, either. While, the Bible is one book of TYPES; showing the fulfillment of those TYPES in Jesus, man doesn't put them together. Of course, the meaning of all the Bible is Spiritual; which, requires the leading of the Holy Spirit. However, let us all read the Book and ask for understanding. We shall always find that God is always gracious.

Concerning the Jews and their attitude, listen to the conversation between Nicodemus and Jesus. "If I tell you of earthly things and you do not believe, how shall you believe if I tell you of heavenly things?" (Jn 3:12). The two go together! Earthly TYPES explains heavenly TRUTHS. They match, giving man the needed truth about sin and, more importantly, about the Savior. Types always matches truth. The two are always consistently portrayed.

TYPES show us that Moses was a type of Jesus as a leader of Israel. Also, Aaron,the High Preist, was a type. However, since the Jews did not believe the earthly things - even though they wrote about them, they could not fathom the heavenly things that were represented in the TYPES. The Jews missed their Savior.

Because of the blindness of the Jewish nation, God turned to the Gentiles. In this wonderfull and gracious act, Gentiles have to seize the time at hand and trust in all that Jesus has done on behalf of mankind. He is our Savior, the Head of the Church and, He is coming again to take us to the kingdom of His Father.

Yes! There's a lot more that being saved from Hell, merely. Time to get with it! We don't see a lot of time remaining until the SECOND COMING of our Savior; so, let's dig in and put it all together. Study, Study and, Study some more, during these last days, Brother!

ONE WEEK

The joke goes: "Seven days makes one weak" (notice the spelling). It's ok, you can chuckle along with me. However, the week that God has given us in Scripture, also contains 7 days. It's prophecy, and the message ought to makes us strong in the faith and "wise unto salvation" (2Tim 3:15).

The first week is found in Genesis, telling us that God creates all things in 7 days or, ONE WEEK. The Genesis week is about God's work that brought Heaven and earth into being. We see that all things in the creation were finished in six days. The Lord then takes the final day, the 7th day, to appreciate what He had just spoken into existence.

The 7th day is, of course, the Day of Rest. However, the LORD, GOD did not tire, needing to rest. We think He stopped and saw that it was all good. The finished creation was a joy the the Lord.

Seven days make one WEEK is also seen in prophecy in the Book of Daniel. Here, the prophet says the days are a year long. There are 490 years of Daniel's 70 weeks. It is God's plan that deals with Israel. It's a TIME-FRAME for the nation but, it's also for all of Christianity.

We see then that God gives man WEEKS OF YEARS, in Daniel. In Genesis, we translate the 7 days to show that God has a 7000 year plan. He will work out, for sure. But, in both citings of Genesis and Daniel, the 7 day period shows us how much time man has on the earth.

The good Lord wants us to pay attention to the revealed time-frame. He wants us to know where we are, relative to plan, and understand that one day this life shall end. God wants man to turn to Him and trust His plan, totally.

Back in Daniel, we learn that the ONE WEEK changes from days, as it was in Genesis, and becomes a week of years. When we get to Daniel, we are to look at Israel with extremely close scrutiny. Israel is God's clock; always been. The clock stopped ticking when Israel was cut off as God's nation; no longer being used in prophecy as God's people.

So, notice carefully, when the 69 weeks were fulfilled, Israel was deserted by God and taken into all nations. However, we can't forget that in all of these prophetic weeks, Israel has been at the forefront. She will be again. It was in 1948 that Israel started to become the clock of time. Coming out of the nations, the United Nations accepted Her as a member.

This was huge in prophecy. Now, when Israel signs the peace treaty with the "Man of Lawlessness" (2Thess. 2:3), God will once again, prepare the nation for the 70th week that Daniel was writing on that nation. When the 70th WEEK begins, Israel will be at the forefront - right in the middle. So, we can understand why the nation in the News so much today. The time is at hand.

Scripture records that the 70th WEEK (Daniel 9:24-27) is the plan of God for Israel. But, Christians will be involved, greatly, as well. It is sad to see so many that have have taught various ideas on the 70th week. The majority says that Israel will be in the tribulation but Christians will not. For some reason, Christians exclude themselves from the day of tribulation teaching. They love to teach, what is called, a pre-tribulation rapture.

THE WEEK LAID OUT: As in Genesis, beginning with Adam and going to the birth of Jesus, we see that 4 days of the week expired. Thus, there were 4 days (4000 yrs) from Adam to Christ. The time for us since, which is 2000 years, make up God's plan; that is, until Jesus comes and the resurrection occurs. At His coming, the time of the 7th thousand years shall begin at that time. Everyone believes that.

At the Second Coming, man shall rest; just as God did after 6 days. The Apostle Peter might clear a lot of this up by his words in his 2nd letter: "But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the LORD one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" (3:8). Therefore, after Jesus comes and sets up the kingdom, the saints shall enjoy the creation, just as God did. This we know as the Millenium or, the 1000 year reign of God's Kingdom on earth ruled by His Son, Jesus.

While, the "one weak" joke makes us laugh, the return of Jesus will have the opposite affect on most dwellers on the earth. The Millenium will not be a joy for most. In fact, the false teachings about His Second Coming have become a joke; that is, if it were not so serious. This last month of May failed to produce what was predicted. There will be more failed prophecies that miss the week teaching of Scripture, of course; having the same effect on me as the joke; "It makes one weak."

DOCTRINAL DOGS?

The Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?" (I Sam. 17:43).

I raise Border Collies. Bred to work sheep, they are the most intelligent dogs I know. But, no one has sheep anymore. So, I raise them as "Smart Dogs." I love to say that I have over 500 pups, all over the world. But, actually, although in the hundreds, it's more close to 300. My favorite story is the guy who was on Temporary Duty from Baltimore, Md. He called and purchased a pup took him back east and named him B. J. after an outfielder for the Baltimore Orioles. The next year B. J. Surhoff was traded to Atlanta. Poor guy.
It seems that the dog hasn't always been man's best friend. Biblically, dogs are not normally placed in good light. Of course, Border Collies were not developed until the 1500's; but, when it comes to the word of God, for the most part, dogs are used for descriptive purposes.

However, there are a few verses that use dogs in a "better off than the alternative" category. One is Ecclesiastes 9:4; which says, "A live dog is better than a dead lion." While, it doesn't advance dogs to the brilliant friend of man, the passage does shows that a live dog is better off than anything that is dead. Or, to put it as I think it means: "Our position in life may not be the greatest but, as long as we have life, we have hope and can change" - even, for a dog.

Solomon wants us to understand that any position of live is of no value to the LORD.; unless our life serves Him. Life, in the final analysis, has no meaning after one is dead. The wise writer of Ecclesiastes uses Dogs in this verse to show us to compare this life and the opportunities in it. It's better to be alive than to not be alive. Thus, life is precious. Let us take avantage of it and follow Solomon's admonition and serve God and His Son, Jesus; for one day, we shall leave this world.

Certainly, animals are used to give us better understanding of how to serve God; often used in Parables. Jesus used them all the time. His favorite animals are sheep; teaching us that - like sheep follow shepherds; so, Christians are to follow Him, in their spiritual walk. His care is sufficient, always.

DOGS may reveal one's character; but normally, the Bible uses demeaning terms; as in 2nd Peter 2:22. Here, dogs are used to explain false prophets that promises freedom; but, remain enslaved in the old life. Peter states that "...it would be better for them to not have known the way of righteousness, than having know it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them." We a bit more information by reading the Proverb entirely. "Like a dog that returns to his own vomit IS A FOOL WHO REPEATS HIS FOLLY," Proverbs 26:11,

Dogs also are used for "character building and judging examples. We know well the 300 mens that were chosen to go with Gideon to fight the Midianites. They lapped up water like dogs (Judges 7:5). If we meddle with strife that's not ours, we might as well "take a dog by the ears." (Prov. 26:17). We'll be bitten! Dogs were used to destroy the remains of evil people; such as Jezebel (1st Kgs. 21:23).

Then, the great meeting of David and Goliath of 1st Samuel 17:43, where Goliath had his ego shattered. "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks." If Goliath only knew the outcome of going up against the Lord's anointed, he would have humbled himself, just like a dog.

And, since I love dogs in general, and Border Collies, in particular, I love to read in the Bible where dogs reveal the character of humbleness. My Borders want to be with ME! Perhaps, the best account of humbleness is the Canaanite woman who would not give up, causing the disciples to ask Jesus to "Send her away, for she is shouting out after us," Matthew 15:23.

Making her way to Jesus, she pleaded with Him to "Help me!" (Mt. 15:25). Jesus told her, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs," Matthew 15:26. The Syrophoenician woman answered, "Yes, LORD; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."

When it comes to serving the Lord, we have to humble ourselves. If the need is a great as the woman from Canaan, we certainly will do anything to get the Lord's attention. The lesson shows that if we are humble enough to eat crumbs from the promises of God, we will hear the same words from Jesus as He spoke to the woman: "...your faith is great; be it done for you as you wish."

Her daughter was healed! Praise the Lord. Then, there's the story of Lazarus in Luke 16. Oh! Love those dogs that aided this sick man! The breed of these dogs must have been...

THE MARK OF THE BEAST

"And a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, 'If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand...he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb,'" Revelation 14:9-10.

It may be hard to read such detailed Scripture after the May 21st false prediction by Harold Camping. Then again, it may be the right time to see how serious it is for all who remain under the stuper of influence that "the prince of the power of the air" (Eph. 2:2) has over the "children of disobedience" (Epn 2:2).

Clearly, we can't get much more serious that what the angels announced in the recording of Revelation 14:6-13. The first angel preaches the everlasting gospel to dwellers of the earth; an opportunity to trust in Jesus. The Second angel tells us about the end of world and the fall of Babylon; the reason to trust in Jesus. Then, the THIRD angel makes the anouncement of the MARK and those who take it in their hand or forehead; those who reject God's Son, Jesus. This angel doesn't have a nice ending for those who do.

But, we read of some bad things for those who refuse to take the mark, too. In the earlier chapter, John records "...that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed" (13:15).

The THIRD angel is pretty descriptive when he lists what happens to those who take the MARK and worship the beast. In Revelation 14:10, he speaks of Drinking of the cup of God's indignation and, those who are tormented with fire and brimstone for ever. It isn't a pleasent picture for us to handle or, for us to grasp.

WHAT IS THE MARK? Well, we've all seen a picture with the numbers "666" etched on the forehead of some guy that is bowing to an image of some sort. Yes, the number is correct (13:18); but, like May 21st, the picture presents an incorrect application of the Bible verse. Over years of study, I have thought that 666 represented the number that is on a credit card. Thus, one could go to the ATM and punch in his number that was in his (fore) head or, he could go inside the bank and present the card in his hand.

Now, I'm not absolutely sure that the credit card is the answer, here. However, I had the credit card idea long before there were "Debit Machines" in front of banks. To see meaning, I've always looked beyond words.

But, in this electronic world today, we may need to tweak our explanation a bit. That's because of the cell phone phenom. It almost looks like teenagers are already worshipping the image, doesn't it? No matter where they are, they can not put it down. Teens walk and check out the phone, non-stop. They want someone, somewhere, to call them or twitter them or, WHATEVER. Nothing's more important than the cell.

However, the Bible is a very mature book. Its understanding takes us beyond kids; even, beyond what the world appears to be. And so, when I think of the banks controlling accounts over the cell phone; even, shutting the accounts down, it sounds like the system will and can work all over the world. And, No! I don't own a cell phone.

So, rather than look at prophecy in actual terms - like, the number 666, the Bible continues to speaks in types and shadows; at least, to me. These prophetic passages of Revelation that are very scary to the heart, tell of the end-times, certainly. Yet, they speak of things within the system that contols the world in the end-times. We are not to understand them in the terms that appear. While, there is a MARK, it is interwoven within the antichristal system of the "seven heads and ten horns," the heads of blasphemy of the beast (Rev. 13:1). Like the ten heads and horns, we have to see further into the meaning, realizing that it tells; not of heads and horns, but of leaders and of nations.

THE RESISTANCE IS HIGH! A few days before the incorrect prediction of May 21st, I watched and listened to reaction of people. The radio commentators spoke of the day as if it applied only to their world. They would miss certain programs on TV. My computer listed ten things to be missed but, after reading the first one, I could go no farther. I almost threw up on the screen. The writer thought of the day of the Second Coming in only present and worldly terms. There is a STRONG DELUSION in the world, currently.

One phone call, at 5:00 pm on Saturday, asked if it were true. Nope! I was clear about that; adding quickly, "But, Jesus is coming back!. And, it will be soon. Are you ready?" The answer: "I don't wanna go!" Well, my friend, you are going! Sports announcers, radio broadcasters and TV newsmen had the same reaction. They don't want to go, either. They like it here. They like what is going on and their desire is to continue to live on this earth; even, it seems, if they have to take the mark of the beast.

LAUGHTER

"Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth," Ecclesiastes 7:3 & 4.

I just turned 70 years of age on May 16th. Do I feel old? Compared to Methuselah, I'm 599 years younger. So, no! Neither am I coaxing a present out of anyone. It's that my age allows me to remember back when the population was a whole lot more serious about life. The folks took things; especially eternal matters, very seriously. The rule of that day was WISDOM. Today, in this thrill seeking, laugh-track kind of life that has been shoved in our faces, it seems that no one cares about anything but fun, fun, fun.

My grandparents were serious folks, I recollect fondly. In fact, the entire state of Alabama walked seriously back in the 40's and 50's. Church was well attended, too. Of course, there was much laughter in the South, and even in California, where I was moved to in the early 40's. In Chowchilla, my cousin Richard thought he could ride the pig that roamed around the farm. He didn't! It was "a time to laugh" (Eccl. 3:4) and, we certainly did.

We used to ride the calves in Dad's corral, too. My other cousin, Leon, got on a calf that bucked him right in the watering trough. Now, that was a side splitter; another "time to laugh." I still chuckle, thinking about it. Life was serious and life was wholesome back in those days. It was a great time to live in, but things have changed.

This article isn't about our time, however, or any time, for that matter. It's about life, in general. When we get serious about this life, we find that the Bible teaches on this subject in nearly every segment. Certainly, I believe what the Book says. I attempt to practice what it reveals. And when I do, I see clearly the meaning of life's seriousness. Over and over we read "Seek," "Ask," and "knock." The blessed idea is, when we do what the Book says, the meaning of life comes to the forefront. We realize that we don't have a whole lot of time on this earth. We learn what is required of us and, sometimes, we tremble. God is Holy and, He is serious.

When life's meaning is before our eyes, thinking matches up with Solomon's. Does yours? Solomon lived the best of lives with everything at his fingertips. God's word puts him as the third king of Israel; the wisest man that lived. Just ask the Queen of Sheba about that!

Solomon lists some of those things he did to find happiness but, finally concluding that, "laughter was mad: and of mirth, What good is it?" (Eccl. 2:2). In the end, Solomon states that mankind has to find out just how serious it is to be alive.

It does matter how we live; for, one day soon, all of us shall stand before the Lord of heaven and give an account of how seriously we took His word and applied it to our life. It seems that Solomon learned about life after living many years. But, he wrote it down so others can know how to spend out their time on this terrestial orb. His final words of the Bible were: "...fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil," Ecclesiates 12:13.

Again, we are speaking about life in general, not any specific time period. But, we think that the 2000's have produced some of the nuttiest people that has ever lived. Everybody does his own thing. In these final years before the return of Jesus, man wants is his freedom, that's all. Church is not well attended, anymore.

But, with a mind-set of what Solomon concluded, we can overcome and please the Lord in all that we do. And, there's Jesus. His message was exactly as Solomon's. Yes! Jesus taught about the seriousness of life. Man o man, did He? In fact, His total life was about the seriousness of time and what we are to do with it. In every example, we are clearly shown that Jesus sought out the way to please to His Father, everytime.

Jesus taught His disciples to do the same; even, telling us them the outcome of being serious minded. In the beatitudes, Jesus said, "Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh," Luke 6:21. There is a change for the good that is coming to the serious minded. However, to show that He means business, Jesus turns it around in verse 25. "Woe unto you that laugh now! For ye shall mourn and weep." We can laugh now or, we can act like the Father is in the next room and we had better follow the rules. You know what, He is! The Heavenly Father knows everything we do, all the time.

Today, everyone wants to be happy; cracking up all the time. In order to follow the world, laugh-tracks have been produced to encourage us to join in with them. However, we don't need no stinkin' track! There's another aid that we go to. It's God's Word, the Bible. The Holy Writ explains to us the seriousness of life by putting us within the Spiritual realm. When we get close to God, there's no other choice for the serious minded man. Rather than seek men's advantage, we go to the Bible and follow what it says about life. Only in the Book will we find the complete and final words for life and of life; whether, it's this life or, the one coming!

GOD'S PRESENCE

"If I ascend to heaven, Thou art there;

If I make my bed in Sheol (hell), behold, Thou art there,"

Psalms 139:8

God is Omiscience (all knowing), Omnipotent (all powerful) and Omnipresent (present everywhere) - in all places at the same time; heaven, Sheol or anywhere! When it comes to being in all places at the same time, David's Psalm is right on! So, the question is: 'What makes man feel God? What makes man worship Him; even, if he does it incorrectly?

The answer is that God is present everywhere in His creation. He's even within man's spirit, testifying to His Being. The amazing thing about this is, man feels the Lord and His attributes no matter where he lives or, when he lives. Man's spirit tells him that God is. Man feels God. He knows that the Lord made him this way. Thus, man testifies to God. He can't help it!

Romans declares God's power (1:16). And, Paul tells us more; that God's power is seen in the creation "revealed from faith to faith" (1:17). But, there's more. God's wrath is also revealed. In fact, Paul tells us "...that which is know about God is evident" (1:19). Clearly, man may know God's wrath or, His righteousness, depending upon his faith in God. He just has to look at the earth, sky and himself. But, it's man's spirit that testifies that God created him.

Romans 1:20 states, "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood be the things made, so that they are without excuse."

Thus, historically, every society has had a form of worship. Man cannot help it because man's spirit tells him that someone greater exists. Man feels this way because God is present everywhere and, within man's spirit, testifying. While, man's thoughts aren't always within truth, nevertheless, man has to respond.

And, clearly, not all men know the Lord in truth. Yet, the feeling is so strong that mankind goes his way, making up what he doesn't know. Hence, there have always been false gods created by man. Today, false teachings have replaced, for the most part, false gods. Man may not get to God so, he tries to make God come to where man lives. Nothing new, here. Paul told Timothy that some had gone so far as to say, "...the resurrection has already taken place, and thus they upset the faith of some" (2:18).

However, God warns man about false ideas. The prophet Amos told Israel that man cannot go where God is; even, if he could. So, Amos tells about God changing their positions; placing man where he is to be. "Though they dig into Sheol, From there my hand shall take them;" Amos 9:2. The prophet tells of those "ascending to heaven" only to be brought down (9:2); or, "...hide in Carmel," only to be taken from there (9:3).

Of course, Amos is writing to Israel. Chapter 1, verse 1 says, "...he envisioned visions concerning Israel..." The nation may try to "...conceal in the floor of the sea, a serpent shall bite them" (9:3). The Lord God will show people their sinful place; even, if they think everything is okay.

TODAY, MAN THINKS HE IS WITH THE LORD, USING WORDS DIRECTLY FROM THE LORD

Again, nothing new. Men have always lived for their day. Paul had to instruct the Thessalonians about changing the Second Coming to their own time, writing that they should not be shaken, "...in mind...neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand" (2:2).

Before Christ comes the second time, things have to occur. "... a falling away first" then, "the man of sin revealed, the son of perdition" (2nd Thess. 2:4). Therefore, it doesn't matter how much one may feel he is right about God; feelings must match Scripture. And, Scripture will give man's faith a desire to read, read and read some more of God's Book, the Bible. We must allow the Word of God to put man in his place; or, the Lord shall, according to Amos. The Word instructs man not to lean on his own understanding, feelings or calculations.

Like Paul's day, many predictions have been made concerning the return of Jesus. The Seventh Day Adventists prophesied the second coming to be in 1844. The Jehovah Witnesses said it was in 1874. Many others have given certain days. They were wrong. All of them!

In our day, Jesus is suppose to rapture His people home on May 21st of this year. That's only a little over a week. It will not happen, of course, because the Bible doen't support such teaching. The rapture will not occur then.

And, while I am sure that most are honest and they truly FEEL their thoughts, they are just on false ground. The only truth that is seen by neo-prophets is what Romans, 1:21 records; that is, "For even when they knew God, they did not honor Him as God...but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened."

And, so we close this article with the word "WOW." It is so wonderful that man knows of God and feels God; that He is and exists. In every age, man has testified to this truth. But, many have not had the truth to testify to their teachings. Man starts to change God, making up dates; rather than, simply read the Book. Indeed, too many are led astray.

What man must do is listen to Paul in 2nd Thessalonians 2:3-5. "...for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction...exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worhship..." Doesn't it stand to reason that a temple has to be built before son of destruction can "...take his seat in the temple of God..."? Not only does it stand to reason, that's what Scripture says must happen before the day of Christ's Second Coming can take place.

Until that day, those of the truth enjoy God's presence in spirit. A new body soon but, until then, Jesus taught that "... true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth," John 4:23.

PREPARATION

"Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come you who are blessed of My Father,

inherit the KINGDOM PREPARED for you from the foundation of the world,'" Matthew 25:34.

It is often stated, "God said it, I believe it and, that settles it!" However, it doen't matter if we believe it or not; it will happen for sure. God said it and, what He said, will come to pass.

Of course, it is good for us to believe what God says. There's where faith comes in. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God," Romans 10:17. Whatever God has in the Bible will occur! We believe that all recorded truth is eternal!

Further, on the matter of faith, the Bible goes on to say that, "Faith is the substance (assurance) of things hoped for and, the evidence (conviction) of things not seen," Hebrews 11:1. Without God's revelation, we could never understand what will take place.

Beginning with Salvation, the Roman Road lays out His truth for all to believe. "If you shall confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in rghteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation" Romans 10:9-10.

With so many things prepared for us, we could never grasp any of them without the Bible. That's why we go to church, isn't it? Pastors and preachers expound upon the Word of God and our hearts become receptive to what is declared from the Book. We should follow and obey these men of God.

But, there is one extremely important subject that is misunderstood. It's the KINGDOM PREPARED that is mentioned in the title verse above. However, with over 150 verses on kingdom truth, we ought to learn about it, don't you think? First, look at the time that God prepared the KINGDOM. It was "before the foundation of the world" (Mt 25:34).

From the Lord's holy position, He looked forward and saw everything that was needed. All things were prepared; not, because of us but, because of Jesus, God's Son.

Kingdom teaching is so important for us to understand. To know Kingdom truth brings peace to our hearts because, Kingdom Truth tells us where we will be when the end of time comes. The Bible tells of some who will inherit the kingdom, as Jesus said in Matthew. Others, shall miss the kingdom; although they have been saved by trusting in His work, earlier. Again, we quote Jesus. "Not everyone who says Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven," Matthew 7:21.

Without question the KINGDOM subject is far too important to be missed. Just think about it! Think how God preparing everything for you. Of course, it is all based upon the work of His Son. Yet, what was needed, was known beforehand. The Lord propped His elbow on the window of eternity and saw the end. And more, the Lord loved what He saw. Again, it's all because it is finished in righteousnes - the righteousness of Jesus and His finished work.

So, when we read "in the beginning" (Gen. 1:1), we ought to take eternal comfort knowing that God was there preparing everything needed for man's recovery from sin and inheriting the Kingdom. He loves His creation. God filled the void of the old creation with righteousness, preparing a New Creation. It is for all who believe.

As we travel on the Biblical road down through time, we learn of some things God prepared for His people. The Bible is our historical record; as well as our recording of the new creation. First, we see Abraham, the father of faith, as he believed and walked. His faith was clearly counted as righteousness. "By faith Abraham...obeyed...and he went out, not knowing where he was going," Hebrews 11:8.

On the subject of faith and believing what God has prepared, we need to remember that "all things work together...for good" (Ro 8:28). Sometimes, this life looks very difficult. When difficulty arises, faith enters. We may not know why, but we believe what God has said and, we will believe His Word for every portion of our life. We have to! There's no one else.

From Abraham, we study Israel; a nation that is full of TYPES. Man's fall and recovery is presented in the nation's history. She was sold into bondage, as Adam was; but, set free once the blood of redemption was applied to the door posts of their dwellings. And, when they wandered in the wilderness, the Lord prepared some eternal clothing for them. "Your clothing did not wear oout...nor did you foot swell these forty years" (De. 8:4).

Where they were headed was Canaan Land. A spot that God had already fixed for His people to live. Canaan was a prepared place; just as the Lord has a place PREPARED for us. Concerning Canaan, we see the glory as Moses explained what the promised Land meant for Israel. "The Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and promegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land where you shall eat food without scarcity," Deuteronomoy 8:7-9.

The PROMISED LAND that Israel enjoyed was a type of the coming kingdom. There is no question about that. What else do we need but the Lord's promise? God's word is full of blessings for His people. Let's not miss the Father's Kingdom when Jesus sets it up at the Second Coming. Let's pray, "Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come...(Mt. 6:9-10).

CHANGING YOUR HEART

"...THAT THE WORD OF THE LORD BY THE MOUTH OF JEREMIAH MIGHT FULFILLED,

THE LORD STIRRED UP THE SPIRIT OF CYRUS KING OF PERSIA..." EZRA 1:1.

We love to say, "God is good, all the time." The more we know the Lord and His plan, the more realize that God wants to affirm His righteousness to His people. God wants His people to know what it is and, He wants us to do what it says. If it's in the Book, the Bible, it will come to pass. Therefore, nothing is as secure as the plan. Everyone should know this; for, God says, "I am the LORD, I change not;" (Malachi 3:6.

Man must learn that God's doings are serious and will change our life. The effect is that God causes us to strongly want to get in on the plan. The question is: 'How do we get involved and do what God wants.'

I see two plans; or, two portions of a plan. First, He is going to do what is recorded in the book of books, the Bible. Secondly, the Lord graciously allows man to get in on what He is going to do. These two portions are harmoniously presented in the Word of God. Once saved-always-saved is clear. Since we cannot do anything to be saved, nothing we do can unsave us.

Yet, the Bible calls for the saved to be studious and faithful. The Lord wants us to do what we know we should do. Therefore, it is not hard to locate many verses that instruct man about the walk of faith - verses that have strong teaching. One is the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 7:21, "Not everyone that says to me 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven..."

Knowing Jesus as Savior is not the same as serving Him as Lord of the life. When we harmonize Scripture, we clearly see this. Once this truth is learned, the Bible opens up and the plan is seen. It is amazingly and vividly presented. Truly, man is "without excuse" (Rom. 1:20).

Further, at the Second Coming of Christ, we see that faithful SERVICE is rewarded with entrance into the kingdom. Many verses speak of the Bride of Christ. But, many verses tell of that most will miss the Bride. To understand the difference, we are; not only to pray for the kingdom to come, we are to learn of it and walk in its truth, as well. Once we understand the difference between being saved by faith and serving the LORD by faith, the eyes of our heart open wide. Church service takes on a whole new meaning.

While, the salvation of men's spirits and the resurrection of their bodies are the major and final results of God's plan, it is yet, mandatory that the heart of man has to be changed. Romans 10:10 confirms this point. "With the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness."

The changing of the heart occurs when man confesses that he is a sinner and submits to God's Son. Salvation begins with Jesus and sallvation ends with Jesus. No matter what portion of the plan we are in, faith in Jesus is required. First-Faith allows God to receive a sinner based upon the work of righteous that Jesus accomplished for him. Continued-faith allows God to employ us in His plan based upon what Jesus accomplished to set forth New Testament truth.

The gospel - the Good News - says that sin separates man and God but, although the gulf is great, Jesus spans it. Our loving LORD reaches down with one hand and lifts the sinner up; while, with the other hand, Jesus clings to hand of the Father. Yes! God is good, all the time. The Father sent Jesus to save man and Salvation is granted the moment the precious blood of Christ is applied. Man is redeemed, the gospel says, the second we trust Jesus. Now, the plan says that we are to serve our risen Savior. Christians will want to do this, Amen?

Do you beleive in the gospel or what Jesus accomplished for you? If you do, then you know that your heart has been changed. It is faith's transaction and, it is final. Man passes from death unto life; an act sealed in the blood of Christ that makes the exchange eternal. Hallelujah!

But, faith was in the beginning and, faith continues on. Throughout God's plan of faith, men have believed; even if we go way back to Genesis 22 and study the offering of Isaac. Without question, as Isaac was spared by faith, we have our life is spared through faith. Faith is the answer to man's problems.

Yet, AND GET THIS - Biblical faith has always been based upon the faith of someone other than ourselves. Saving FAITH becomes the doing and faithfulness of someone other than ourselves. We don't have faith in us, we have faith in others. It is not our faith in us that saves us, it is our faith in what another has done on our behalf that brings salvation to our hearts.

This is the case of Isaac. We read that a ram had his horns caught in a thicket of vines. How did the ram get there? Well, Abraham did what God told him to do. He walked by faith. And, as always is the case with the Lord - at faith's end - provision awaits. God kept the ram caught till the right time; to see Abraham's faith exercised.

During the walk up the mount, Isaac had questions but, he always relied upon his father. Seeing the wood and the fire, Isaac asked, "...where is the lamb for the offering?" (Ge 22:7). Father Abraham, believing God all the time, tells Isaac, "In the mount of the Lord it will be provided" (Ge 22:14). This ram was a TYPE of Christ. The picture of this type is very evident. We, clearly see that Isaac was taken in another. The ram was offered instead of him. A substitute offering saved Isaac from dying.

Just as Isaac was taken in another, so are we. Our substitute had been ready "before the foundations of the world" (Ist Pe. 1:18-20). But, at the right time, Jesus willingly took our place of death on the mount. It was Abraham's faith in what God told him that saved Isaac. But, Isaac trusted in his father. The same is true, Spiritually. Through the Heavenly Father and His faith, we who believed His Son, Jesus, shall be saved and never taste death. Our Father completes our trust. Thank you, Lord for sending the Savior!

BACK TO EZRA - a time of Israel's bondage. God's people had sinned, but now it was time to work among the nation, once again. Seventy years had elasped since Jeremiah uttered the prophecy. Now, it was time to fulfill the words of the prophet. "For thus saith the Lord, 'That after 70 years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform My good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place' " Jeremiah 29:10.

To accomplish this recovery of the nation and send them back to Jerusalem, hearts had to be changed. God moved upon Cyrus, the king of Persia (today's Iran), in order to bring about Jeremiah's prophecy. Thus, the LORD stirred Cyrus to action. And, did Cyrus responsed! He sent a proclamation throughout his kingdom (Ez 1:1).

Yes! God uses other men; even, non-Jews to accomplish His will. In the letter, Cyrus stated, "The Lord, the God of heaven...He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah" (Ex 1:2).

Why, it was no different than when Israel left Egypt. In God's provisions, the Egyptians gave Israel the necessary items for worship. "...let every man borrow from his neighbor...jewels of silver, and jewels of gold" (Ex 11:2). Cyrus provided "silver, gold, with goods, cattle, and with valuables..." (Ez 1:6). He gave back the items that were taken when Babylon captured Israel.

As Ezra traveled with all the goods, I can hear him singing something like: "God provides, All the time." When God is involved, "All things work together to good" (Rom. 8:28). Let us add to this verse, "All the time!" Friend, get all that God has. The Bible is written to inform us of God's plan. Read it! Study it! Believe it! And, do it!

While, I know that you will have a changed heart and serve the LORD, the problem remains that too many so-called believers today, do not. 'They really don't believe what God is doing in their life.' Changing the heart is up to the Father. He provided Jesus and He will provide grace. He, not only gets us to where we ought to be, He also provides the necessary items once we get there. Our heart can be changed. Allow God to stir your heart, today.
